So what kind of tubes are you using on your MPX3?

As far as I know, Rob has been sticking with a high-end 6SN7 combination of Brimar CV1988's for output and a Mullard ECC32 for driver.

I've considered the combo of MPX3 SLAM + DX1000 to be exceptional, but after the upcoming meet I will have some more experience with DX1000 synergy with a variety of amps. Really looking forward to trying it with the Zana Deux.

I'm really leaning towards tubes for my amp purchase to go with these cans.

The Woo 6SE Maxxed seems like the best choice for my (very) stretched budget. Singlepower looks interesting but with all the problems that many have had I am very reticent to traverse that path.

EDIT: However, if I sell my phonostage from my speaker rig I probably could stretch it to a Woo 5LE.

Yep, Bryan is exactly right. This is a great combo with the DX1000, although Bryan's MPX3 also sounded superb with the DX1000, and he was using a Ken-Rad black-glass VT-231 (6SN7GT) driver and 5687 power tubes, IIRC. Also sounded great.

I wouldn't want bright sounding tubes with the DX1000. The reason I didn't care for the SBH with the DX1000 is that the SBH is a tiny bit lean in the lower mids, and this wasn't a good match with the JVC.

I have tried my DX1000 with my Rudistor RP-7 Lite (Hybrid) and my RPX-33 Mk II. IMO they sound better with the RPX-33. With the RP-7 they sound a little bit too warm.

Some tube rolling, RP7 I mean, would make a difference, I guess.

First impressions - they're freakin' HUGE! Even bigger than I anticipated from looking at pictures.

As far as sound goes I'll be burning em in during the next couple of days, but I, of course, put em on right away (cause I don't have the self control to just burn em in without a sneak listen) and I must say the bass extends craaazy low. I put on "Sapphire" by Zombi and my immediate impression was "Woah!". It goes _deep_ yet still retains control.

Let's hope he doesn't do anything evil with his magical new headphones.

Quick question - right out of the box-impression is that they're a bit dark. Is this something that improves with burn-in? Normally it's the other way around - too bright at first, then it settles in.
I already read through all 68 pages of this thread once, so I'm kinda not up to doing it again.

I have read it through twice. ...at least. lol!

Mine have not got any brighter with break-in. I doubt that will happen.

Hmmmm...I would never describe them as dark. However, looking at your other headphones, I would describe them as darker than either the DT880 of the HD-25-1. Let them break in and give yourself some time to adjust to their sonic signature.
