This could have been among the most anti-climax sales response a series of headphones ever had against the hype it had pre-launch. Was like every1 was drooling over it and then when it got launched the hype all was completely gone lol.

quite a number of people are saying the bass is too much that's why i don't want it anymore :0.
honestly, i like bass, i like strong punchy bass but when it's too much, it's no good :S

Maybe it fits my bass cravings However the rest of the range isn't very well reflected over yet so I'm quite in standby yet awaiting for responses. I'm personally looking for greatly boosted bass response but still good overall quality.

As always those who jumped the shark and sold these before burnin missed out on a totalphile headphone. They need patience and good amplification too though.

I was distracted with other cans (and now another ), I'll eventually get the SZ2000 but the response so far, both inside and outside Japan isn't so good. The difficulty of getting one (Tenso isn't available in my country) doesn't help either.

Still using the SZ2000's.. Still loving them. HE-500, M-100, WS99, W1000x +++ are all just collecting dust here. If the Heed Audio canalot amp will sing with the SZ2000 like burson "the conductor" is doing right now, I might as well just sell the other cans I've got. Everything before the SZ2000's was either "beautiful mids and highs, but weak bass" or "thumping bass, so-so mids and highs". The sound of the SZ2000 is the perfect middle ground imho.

How are these in the mids/upper mids? Do they have vocal presence at around 1-2khz? What other headphone can the mids be compared to the most?

The highs and mids on the he-500 are better than the sz2000, but that doesn't really do me any good when I always end up wanting more low end grunt when listening to the he-500. If we're talking out and out sound quality, the he-500 is a better headphone. I can fully understand how the sz2000 isn't for everyone as it does color the sound quite a bit. But for me the sz2000 is the perfect compromise between "beautiful" and "fun" sound. It has a very lush and powerfull sound. All other headphones I've heard that are supposed to be fun with some extra bass (xb700, xb1000, d7100, m100, ws99) all do something wrong (too much bass, low quality bass/mids, recessed highs/piercing highs, etc etc) that makes them miss the mark for me. The SZ2000 nails it.

Yeah, that warm 'coloring' over the whole spectrum is what turns me off about these (and my ears resting on the drivers don't help matters much either). I think that the initial $360+ price was a bit too much for what they offer! At that price, sound quality wise, I would have gladly taken: Yamaha Pro 500s, V-moda M100s, Denon D600s, etc. etc. instead of these. The new low price of $250 (or less, dammit... I should have waited!! lol) is definitely a better option, but still, you'd have to be aware of the coloration AND how they "sit" on your ears.
 
All in all, thunderous bass, good forward mids and highs that are too warm to provide enough clarity and detailing, good enough sound stage. But Still, prefer others sound signature and lack of coloration (and even flaws) from others. Still consider Ultrasone Signature DJs, Denon D5000 (Lawton modded) and now Perfect Sound D901s for my bass needs...
 
I do hope that some of you do try the headphones though!

Anyone has both the SZ1k/2k and the FXZ?
Does it have the same lean towards the lower end like the FXZ ?
I find that the FXZs have really nice bass but it feels fatiguing after a while, if it does have that same signature then i probably will skip this
