Wow, like I was stirring the hornet's nest on this. Guys, I don't think I am that far off from yours' opinion on FXT90 vs. SE215, and it is largely a semantic issue. As some of you might know I have ranked SE215 to be pretty high (4.5/5, an upper mid-tier), while my opinion on FXT90 (so far) places it at 4.6 or so (a lower top-tier). By all mean FXT90 is a class better than SE215 but to me, that is not a night-and-day difference. Personally I would think there must be at least 2 to 3 classes of difference (say lower top-tier vs. lower mid-tier) to justify my own reference of what is night-and-day ("a lot"). That is why I said FXT90 is 'very noticeably' better than SE215, but it is not 'a lot' by my scale.

Sorry ClieOs. Seems like I'm the one who stirred the hornet nest not you.
I really value your opinions and did enjoyed the SE215 during the times I own them.
Maybe my preference in sound signature have changed over time (I'm still a newbie)and I started to feel that the Shure have a soft an laid back top end. I would like something with more sparkle in the top end and the FXT90 seems to fit my requirements now.
I have already place my order for the FXT90 and would like to thank all you guys here for providing such useful information to help in my decision.

Well, the torture of consumer indecision is behind me:  I put my money down on a set of FXT90s from 'buyfromjapan'.

At the end of the day, my gut told me I'd be more satisfied with the visceral flavour/fun factor of the JVCs than the greater accuracy/transparency/smoothness/neutrality of the GR07 or RE262.  (I've already got enough sonic accuracy/neutrality in my life!)
 
Moreover, the fact that they cost $30-$40 less than the others sweetened the deal somewhat.  And I took note of the fact that the FXTs made a very good first impression on a lot of you, which suggests they are solid all-rounders and perhaps less likely to be "an acquired taste".  To be honest, I'm sure I'd be happy with any of the aforementioned sets, but I'm banking on the JVCs winning out in the versatility/instant gratification department...  I guess I can put that theory to the test in a coupla weeks!
 
In the meantime, THANKS EVERYBODY!!  Your input was extremely helpful, and your enthusiasm for these things is dangerously contagious.
 
I'll touch base again once I've spent a bit of time with the headphones... and can confirm for which unit of time they will be a "Flavor".  (I'll be happy with "Flavor Of The Next Five Years Or So".)   ;)

I'm officially on board fellas! Just received mine a few hours ago, and as far as first impressions are concerned, right out of the box, the FXT90's met my every expectation. Not long before these are climb their way to my top favorites.

In a few short words, the FXT90's are what I'd call an exquisitely smooth, yet crisp & clear sounding earphones. Hats off to JVC for continuing to impress those (like me) coming from the FX700.

I figured you would like them as much as Eric and myself.  What's funny to me is the initial blah impressions from one or two people earlier in the year.  When I first listened, I was instantly in love and within a few hours, they were my favorites.  Without Inks thread, we might not have tried them and they would remain overlooked.

Okay, finally dug out my N3. So....Hmmm? The N3 has more powerful bass and wider soundstage than the FXT90. I'm glad you requested this comparison, because I actually forgot how good the N3 is for the price. The N3 is not a bad sounding IEM by any stretch of the imagination. 
 
But...(yes, there's a but), the FXT90 is clearer and a cleaner bass; it has better and more forward mids; and better layering/instrument separation. 
 
Yes, there is definitely more bass in the N3 if that's your main focus (and I think it's less muddier than the bass in the DDM). Highs aren't bad in the N3 too. But the FXT90 is not bass shy at all. The N3 are bass monsters!! Overall, however, I'll give my nod to the FXT90 as most enjoyable for me. I can see how someone could find the N3 more enjoyable, however, depending on what you're looking for in an IEM. Build quality, the JVC wins hands down (test song was Jaco Pastorius' "Kuru/Speak Like A Child" through the Fiio E7/E9 combination.... I used medium/small Monster foam hybrid tips on both IEMs).

I'm experiencing a good bit of sibilance, where the S's and T's are too over pronounced. All the while, it's rather difficult to take my attention off of it, since the sibilance is quite prominent in nearly every track. This is with the stock JVC tips in use (which were my preferred choice for the FX700), though even with the Comply T-400's, there's still a noticeable presence of sibilance. I know it not to be the source, since I'm using ether my iPad or the FiiO E7. This calls for burn in I suppose.

I experienced some sibilance as well, but it seems to be receding rather rapidly after only a few hours of burn in.
