Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

I've added a ring under the pads made of a plastic from a 1L soda bottle and covered of Paxmate and it seem to help on the bass. You can also make the ring lower in the front to add an angle.

What are you referring to?  Even the stock T50rp is exceptionally clean compared to other headphones (stock T50rp has less ringing than the Beyer T1 or Denon D7000 for example).  If you're referring to Purrin's plots, they are designed more for the upper mids and treble.  All his plots show ringing at 1khz even the HD800.  He'd have to explain why.

They don't seal very well, they're big, honky, firm and just too flat and hard to fit a human face properly.  So far I think the O2 pads and SRH840 pads are good choices for these phones.  The 840 pads have more treble and upper mids than the O2 pads, and also more bass.  The O2 pads are more spacious sounding because of the bigger opening.  I'm surprised the O2 pads aren't more bassy, on other orthos they are the bassiest pads by far.  It's partly because they get stretched over the baffle and loose their shape, but even attached with adhesive they don't bring out that much bass.

I live in Olympia but come to PDX often (grew up in PDX & have family there).  I'll let you know the next time I'm down there, dogwan.. are you coming to the Seattle meet in January?

there are plastic parts on the bass ports and it's right in front of the back of the driver. do you think it's essential to cover the bass port's plastic parts with acoustic foam?

thanks for letting me know. i was gonna get the O2 pads as well but after reading they're aren't real leather kinda turned me off on them cause the price they go for and i really like the feel of real leather and real leather is much more durable when it comes absorbing skin oils and can easily be cleaned off and how leather molds to your face offering maximum seal. that's why i was looking at the jmoney pads but after getting pair shure 840 pads i'm basically good. i don't know if the shure 840 pads are real leather or not but they are insanely soft and do mold to your face pretty well making an efficient seal. i never tried pad rolling though(is that what it's actually called?) so when i get mine back after auditioning i might try it your way and use type of adhesive to stick the pads on there cause way i have them stuffed and dampened inside the pad it's quite the stretch on the cups.
