Modding should let you clean up the bass and highs - so far, I haven't found the need to, myself.

T50RP was written on them. I assume they are a recent pair. They have a ton of studio monitors such as V6's, 440's, etc

I will try begging the owner for it tonight, it seems it was there for years. I almost screamed when I saw it.

The other thing to look at is whether the pads are firm (newer earpads) or wrinkly and flaky (older ones).
 
The older ones killed all the bass response, which is why it took several years for head-fiers to recognize the potential in these headphones.

Definitely wrinkly and flaky. I also got "pad noise" due to the flakiness. If by chance I get them, those pads are goin in the trash can.

You can replace them with teh Shure 840 pads ($20 ish) - they are a huge improvement (in comfort especially, but sonic improvements too).

I can't entirely speak for those mods, but my modded T50RPs extend pretty nicely down to around 30Hz without much roll off. The bass on the modded T50RPs is more neutral than the Denons, which can be slightly boomy and elevated. That said, I think my T50RPs sound great with any bass-heavy music. Nice extension, balanced bass, and plenty of punch.
 
As for isolation, mine are almost completely closed (stock is much more open). As such, they leak very little.

The soundstage is excellent actually, if you have some paxmate and the 840 on there anyways. Otherwise it is not nearly as good. Acoustic foam really allows them to produce layered sound.

Question for everyone--
 
 
With the pair I just received I notice that on energetic, guitar-driven rock there's a slight static-like sound, or soft almost buzzing feel whenever guitars are loudly present in music material. I'm referring to really powerful guitar passages. This is even down at medium volumes on a couple demanding tracks (not cranking it by any means at all). The more I lower volume, the more it goes away. It's present with any source I use listen with, and likewise doesn't show in the music passages when I use my custom ear monitors... so it follows the headphone. Are orthos known for drivers being tripped up by complex guitar driven music (or that particular frequency band)? Could something be vibrating in the ear cups from the mods? Are the planar magnetic drivers not suited to that midrange energy of guitar driven music?
