I'd be curious about a recable, too, at least to shorten the cable if anything.. but what about getting the right plug to fit into the locking mechanism on the earcup?

Indeed. Hearing the thumping footsteps in that classical recording isn't an improvement in the musical sense...but man...these cans are very revealing....

I can hear some coughing and mouse clicking in the background of some of my Chopin CDs, I wonder how much more revealing it would be with the t50rp. We will see in a couple of days.

I've wondered about this too. I would like to recable mine, but not sure where to find a replacement locking mechanism.

that is the bugbear, isn't it?  with the right locking connector i would be joining the cable train with cryo'd continuous cast cu or ag...otherwise it remains stock.

tbh I didn't even look at it.. I just assumed there would be an easy workaround. I'm sure something could be done. And who needs the locking mechanism? Smeggy removes his ~ I'm thinking it's a relatively easy workaround. But I need to look at it next time I open it up to finish up the mod. Since the dynamat's in, everything sounds crisper, but also more echoey / cavernous. Yes, 1st alto and 2nd alto range is kinda quirky right now. Need the acoustic foam.
 
Back to pads, anybody try the LCD-2 pads yet? I think they're too large, but do we know for sure? (I'd really love lcd pads to troll the lcd-2.

LOL! I think the pads are too big.
 
However, the new HiFiMan pads might work like the Fischer pads. They are a bit small, but with a little bit of work, they should work out fine, much like the Fischer pads.
 
So...if anyone wants to send me their cans for modding, you can order a set of HiFiMan pads.....

I'm having a noob moment, I can't find the link for instructions on how to post pictures on this site.  Anyway, I was experiencing major discomfort from the headband and the earcups putting too much pressure at the top of my ears.  I taped a scrap of fabric to the headband to make a suspension system, a very crude version of this:

The best mod I found, next to my Blutak sheet. Sounds just like the blutak sheet. So if you can't get blutak and have some high density foam around, go a head.

 
I think my band is longer than BotByte's, there is about a finger width space between the fabric and the stock headband when worn.  This changed the angle of the cups, putting more pressure at the bottom of my ears.  The improved seal improved the bass from "somewhat lacking" to "a little to much".  I will try closing up the vent to compensate.

Added a couple of strips of dynamat to the inside of the cup to mass load them. I don't think this is part of the official Rastapants configuration, but I have tons of Dynamat sitting around so I figured it couldn't hurt. IMHO, there should be more Dynamat coverage.  It doesn't have to cover every square mm of the surface, but you left some fairly large open areas.  I don't think you NEED to remove the foam to cover more, but it's something to keep in mind if you notice any echoy noise.
 
I forgot a tip about Dynamat I learned from car audio projects.  It cuts easier when cold (doesn't ooze away from the blade), but forms & sticks easier when warm.  You can put it outside in cold weather (or the refrigerator

@questhate, you did a great job getting the white cloth off of the driver so cleanly. What's your secret? Did you apply some solvent to the cloth to ease off the adhesive?

I just noticed that the T50RP's look a bit similar to the Astro A40's, in terms of build (not color and magnetic plates and stuff). My T50RP's could fit in my A40 case, and the pads of each pair look roughly the same size. The headband adjustments are the same too.
