I got my Maverick Audio D1 last week and must say that I have been absolutely loving my T50s with this DAC. I applied the rastapants recipe to mine and they are pretty close to perfect to my ears, and I love how I was able to tune the bass by covering 50% of the ports with electrical tape. I was listening to Stephen Marley today and it was amazing.
 
I do feel like I get some ear fatigue after a while though and was wondering if covering that post in the middle of the cup with felt or asaka might help?
 
I also got my cocobolo turning blocks last week and can't wait to start trying to turn some cups, but i love my modded T50s so much I might just have to buy another pair to put these wood cups on.

Do you have the stock felt over the front of the driver?  I took it off to cover the front of the baffle with dynamat but leaving the driver uncovered made it a bit bright and sibilant.  A put a layer of 100% wool felt over it and it killed the sibilance without making it dark or obscuring any detail.
 
Something else I noticed is that my T50RPs fatigue me rather quickly if I don't use any crossfeed.  I use TB Isone with foobar on my desktop rig and my portable amp has an adjustable crossfeed function built in.
 
I always use crossfeed myself, but I've noticed that different 'phones need it to different degrees before I get a headache and my T50RPs need it more than any other 'phone I've owned yet..

I found just the opposite.  I thought the stock felt over the drivers on the ear side was thick, so I cut it off.  Was I surprised!  It is actually very thin stuff and loosely woven.  Holding it up to the light you can see right through it so I ordered replacement "Dust Cover" felt.  
 
In the interim, I cut 1/16" art supply felt and 100% wool and tried them over the driver.  To my ears, both produced a significant veil across the frequency range.  Vocals were muffled, lows were not as tight, and highs attenuated, so off they came.

I have some craft felt over the driver and it definetly helped, plus on top of that is the fabric from the shure 840 pads. The felt of the driver on the ear side mod is going to have a vastly different affect based on your other mods. I didn't feel i need the felt over the driver till i removed the white gauze from the back of the driver and put felt over it, that changes the sound of the driver tremendously. I believe it changed it for the better and allowed me to tune the back pressure on the driver with the port on the cup using electrical tape. This is when it all came together for me.

It is the only service I have found that will stream 320Kbps CBR mp3s, which is essentially cd quality. It does cost 5 bucks a month but their selection is tremendous and I just love it. I am a software developer by trade and sit at my desk all day and being able to listen to anything I want, when i want is worth it for me. I am interested in this signal processing techology though, i just think i will have to use a hardware device in my source path. I will have to look into this.

I use foobar with Isone at home.  At work I listen to PandoraOne with the crossfeed from my Practical Devices XM6 DAC/amp.  Isone is a VST plugin though, so there are other players you can use it with like Winamp or Jriver.
 
You can make it work with anything in just software, but in the end I found it added an annoying amount of latency at any buffer setting that didn't hiccup from time to time.

I am listening to my Rastapants right now and all I can say is that these things are just stupid good. Absolutely superb and probably the cheapest high-end level piece of gear i have heard.

I know a few of you have built it as I did, can you post your comments if you did a 100pct copy, and if you made any later tweaks you thought improved them further it'd be cool to see.

What is on the ear-side seems pretty dependent upon what is on the back of the driver. When I had white felt and later micropore and transpore I made all sorts of different experiments with felt on the ear side.

Tossing the white felt and going to a felt pad over the inside changed the sound profoundly, and all the ear-side had to be redone. I settled with the bare driver with a "speaker cloth" from the 840 pads....

going to the felt on the drivers back radically reduced sibilance and made the sound very neutral and fast, with no felt. Any felt totally muffled the sound, so obviously the white felt was good at reflection treble and mids....

I'm going to order these soon, there is the option for me to order the Shure SRH840 pads, should I get them, do they make a big difference? Looking to increase bass etc.

Between pg 100 and 103, use the 840 pad instead of the 5000 pads.

Fostex T50RP Replacement Parts

 

I've been in contact with the distributor about replacement parts.  I also contacted Full Compass and B&H Photo parts departments.  Full Compass immediately phoned the distributor and confirmed they could get any parts needed.  B&H told me all they had was ear pads.  Here's the most recent reply from the distributor:

What is the major difference in the Shure pads vs. the SA5000 pads?
 
I am looking into modding my T-50RP, and have no idea which pad to get.

Cant comment on the Shure pads but I own the Sa5ks. These are some really nice pads. They are real leather, which means that at first they can be a little stiff but over time they soften up quite a bit. They are big and extremely comfortable, even in a harder state, no pressure/compression whatsoever. I really like them a lot.
