Yeah pads make just as much difference as the damping.  I'd love to see some pics too and a diameter measurement if you can.
 
As far as attaching, you don't want to use velcro because that doesn't make a good seal.  You can use double sided tape if the lip on the baffle of the T50rp doesn't keep the pads from laying flat.  Best way probably is to get some "Rope Caulk" (I have the kind that says "For Irregular Gaps", Amazon sells something similar but the label is different so I'm not sure if it's the same).  It's like Takk except it's pre-rolled into nice even snakes so it's really easy to apply a uniform layer. It will also stick out past that baffle lip and make nice contact with the pads.  It's stickier than takk which isn't so nice if you want to get it all off (not a problem with the flat plastic baffle, but not great to get into drivers, etc), but it will hold the pads well.  The other nice thing about this is that it makes changing your damping easier because you just pull your pads off and stick them back on.  Eventually the putty gets a bit dirty and you have to pull it off and re-apply but that takes a long time.

You were absolutely right rhythmdevils, the seal's off and a couple things (most notably bass) suffer.

That bad seal is probably the biggest reason bass suffers.  Larger air volume in the cups from the bigger pads will also decrease bass.

Actually the bass was the most noticeable area of improvement after I got the LCD-2 pads -- more impactful, etc.  That was yesterday when I just clamped the cups down to my head with padless T50s (great seal) -- the velcro I tried today is just plain bad.

Working on Rastapants mods at the moment and for the first time I feel I'm getting closer to good sound.  The one element of the mod that I was not able to try is the replacement of the stock white felt over driver with "stiff craft felt".  Went to Michael's tonight and very sure I have what was originally spec'd.  Only issue was agonizing over what color felt would sound the best.

Honestly, I do like getting natural, un-died felt when possible.  It's not possible that often, but it's kind of a nice touch.  Maybe the fibers are more absorbent.

So it turns out I don't need any rope caulk.  After comparing with Rawrster's RP2 yesterday and speaking with Nikongod I decided to try stretching the LCD-2 lambskin right over the drivers and it worked perfectly.  Seal's great now.  How do I like it?  Better than the O2 pads in angling and spaciousness but less than the O2 pads in softness.

The LCD-2 pads look very nice on the T50rp. They remind me the J$ Denon pads.

So what's their diameter?  Looks like they are a circle diameter about the same as the long side of the T50rp baffle.  Cool about the seal!
