I know you have heard every rig there is, but you should hear mine. :P I prefer it to the Layla I've heard but again, I haven't heard the Layla on my rig so we are comparing apples and oranges here.

I'm in fact waiting for the Layla to come up with a custom version, that would up the game a notch I presume.

I would suggest a few days with the Layla's at home. But again, we're having this debate...something I NEVER thought possible with IEMs before them. That is quite a feat.

Don't get me wrong, I love the HD800s and mine ain't goin' anywhere! My top 5 headphones of all time now are the SR-009/SR-007Mk1/LCD-X/HD800/Layla's (in no particular order except for the SR-009).

As I noted, it's gonna be really hard to send these Layla's back after my review.

I totally agree. I was somewhat shocked when I first listened to the Laylas. They had the TOTL sound of the SR009 and HD800. If I travelled more I would have bought the Laylas on the spot.

I'm a bit ambivalent about the SR009s. I do not have a proper amp for them yet and given the gazillion KGSSHV combinations I guess I will just wait for another two years when the BHSE arrives

So I received my Roxannes and after a weekend of burn in they have opened up and the treble has sparkle to it. I'm just posting this to inform future Roxanne buyers not to listen to those who tried a demo unit and declared that the roxanne is the "darkest sounding JH Audio iem". Anyone that has heard both the JH16 and the Roxanne could never honestly state such a thing.

I used 16pro for 2 yrs. & upgrading to Roxanne CIEM half yr. ago.

IMO, not comparing with other brands, Layla is different from roxanne,
more airy & better 'content' within the vocal, I am planning to upgrade to Layla soon :P

Agreed, lots of misinformation in this thread and others. I feel sorry for people that actually have to rely on some of this hot air when choosing what to buy. Always best to listen yourself if you can.

For me its between the Roxanne and the Layla, no way I can demo them as I am nowhere near their retailers or HQ and for the longest time I was decided on the Roxanne. However after reading this thread, I am a confused again.

I am not going to be doing anything technical, infact half the words used to describe the sound produced by these IEM's I don't understand. I look up this picture everytime I read warm, dark, muddy etc....

Maybe I am in the wrong place, if so I apologize for displaying my ignorance.

What I am trying to find out is,

1- Why did you pick the Roxanne over the Layla ?

2- If I am only going to listen to music at home, in the gym, on the plane, rather in the plan..... while walking around, and I appreciate good sound should I get the Roxanne or the Layla? taking into consideration I will probably not miss the extras in the Layla and that the Roxanne's are cheaper.

Right at the start, the first post infact was is something I could relate to, I don't have too many hi rez tracks and use an Ipod classic so looking for something forgiving and fun to listen to, that being said maybe I have answered my 2nd question.

I have both and I think I can help you a bit.

For #1 the pros of the Roxanne are: 1, lower price; 2, harder bass; 3, less extra stuff that you might not need (smaller case, no balanced cable); 4, better for rock/pop if classical/neutral is not your thing.  However, look into the Angie if you want something slightly more neutral with a slight uptick of bass plus lower price than the Roxanne.
For #2 both are pretty much the same usability wise, and my answer to #1 overlaps this.

Also, you don't really need high rez stuff to enjoy high end IEMs, you just need to make sure your files are encoded properly (e.g., 16/44 FLAC rips from CD with dBpoweramp.)

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the advice, I forgot to mention that I would get the Custom fit IEMs, don't know if it would make a difference and I don't have a problem coughing up the extra dough for the Layla's but i do not have much classical in my playlist and if that's something they are good at playing then maybe they are not for me.

I guess Ill stick to my original choice of the Roxanne's they seem to fit my style of music and listening. As when I read neutral and or flat, I think flat on an analogue EQ which I know I dont like, I have to fool around and set it to my taste. Hope that made some sense.

Good to know.  However I advise you that you will run into a lot less headache dealing with JH if you pick the universal version instead.  Just get a pair from Earphone Solutions for a test run and suck up the restock fee before committing yourself.

Guys,

Would like to check if the service at JH audio is any better, this is what a dealer from WACO in TX sent my aunt who inquired on my behalf.

Hello,
I hope you are well and thank you for contacting me. I would look at the UE7 of Ultimate Ears.
I have UE, JH, and 1964's in demo so you can hear them. I do not have any new JH's because I am no longer selling their products due to their awful customer service to customers and dealers. I can only provide you with the ear impressions and services with JH. I am very sorry.
