Introducing Shanling M8T - New Flagship Portable Android Player with Tubes

Thanks for your answer!
That's what I thought. None of this apps work properly together with streaming apps.
So this player is unfortunately not for me.
Have a good day😊.
Indeed I have the same problem with other Shanling Daps. EQ not working properly with third party apps when streaming. @Shanling is this fixed on the M8T?

When I bought the Stealth I also tried the E3 and it felt more efficient, so I'll ask perplexity:

Higher ohms means less current needed, higher sensitity means lkess power needed so I'd say it would drive the e3 even easier.

Here's a comparison of the key specifications for the Dan Clark Audio (DCA) Stealth and E3 headphones, with a focus on their sensitivity:

Sensitivity

The E3 has a noticeably higher sensitivity, which means it should be easier to drive and potentially reach higher volume levels with the same amount of power input.

Other Key Specifications

Impedance

Thanks very much.

A leather case comes with M8T? I thought @Shanling was only offering 2 different color cases as extra accessories we had to purchase. I don't see those accessory cases for sale at the Shanling store.

Yes, the case comes in two colors. Some sellers include the case within the price of M8T, some might sell it separately, please check with your seller on this exactly.

For our official Store, the case is included, but I think they add in color at random. You can email them at shop@shanling.com if you want specific color.

Thanks, but does that include payback without downsampling when running Roon playing back locally? Out when using Roon ARC on the go?

Everything is played at 192 kHz sampling on M8T, this issue with Roon app was still not fixed.

There were some updates for our Android 10 player that should have made it better. M8T would be the same.

Is the Ultra-Linear mode use the tubes ?

Yes, it's one of the two modes of tubes.

My DCA Stealth came back home (long story) so was able to try it out ith the M8T. This is the first portable player I've had that can drive it properly. At high gain around 85 it starts even to get too loud for comfort. The bass is authoritative in metal and the sub bass in trance is deep without being bloated.

I've tried before the Hiby RS8 and the A&K SE300 with the DCA Stealth and almost bout an A&K ultra just to be able to use the headphones on the road. The closest to driving it well was the RS8, if only the volume went to 120 :) It was listenable but you could the struggle, especially on the bass and sub bass.
What do you think about heating? Have you tried keeping it in a pocket? I wonder how these tubes will behave in regards of heat generating.

I didn't order one (looked for ages on the website and couldn't find it) but it arrived with a black one.

I left it downloading gig from apple music while chargning and it didn't even feel warm to the touch. I haven't been able to get it to heat up yet, but will test now leaving it driving the Stealth at 85 on tubes for a while.

Found Some impressions from China(used google translator):

Ningcai@李灵佳琦

In terms of the application of electron tubes, its electron tubes are mainly used in the front-end part, followed by a transistor operational amplifier, so the overall signal-to-noise ratio of the whole machine can be achieved, including maintaining the boldness while increasing the thrust. It’s also large enough. Even when turned on to the tube mode, my two reference plugs are pushed very full. It’s still plump and has a good sense of space, especially if you’re worried about the “shanling smell” being too strong. You don’t have to worry about the direction of this machine at all. Its foundation is much more popular than the M8/M9. It doesn’t suppress high-frequency brightness, nor is it made too thick, nor is it too thick to be too warm. I think it is more suitable for the mainstream market. It's a machine that makes good use of the characteristics of the tube while I like it.

@headphone bar alpaca

After listening to the sound of the tube mode, the warm and rich line is more obvious. The low frequency is very solid and meaty, but not too aggressive and violent. The high frequency has excellent control, the high frequency of the instrumental music is smooth and the pop soundtrack is smooth. The listenability is excellent, the vocals are not too smeared due to the warm sound direction, and the mouth shape clarity and sibilance control are very good. It is a very nice new product, I like it.

Headphone aesthetics

@headphone aesthetics

The sound in transistor mode is full and the sound field is not large, but the line sense is well controlled. It can be said that the sound is somewhere between the warmth of M8 and the rationality of M9. After turning on the tube, there will be a little smearing feeling, but the flavor is enhanced and the texture is denser.

@ Gangster Talent Accompanying Music Talk

The sound of the M8T DAP is soothing and moist. It is not the type where the texture is as thin as a needle and the instrumental lines are like sketches. In terms of the most iconic mid-frequency vocals, we can easily hear the mellowness that Shanling has always had. , thanks to the polishing of the tube, the singer's tail tone will be polished to be very round and delicate. When listening to pop music and folk vocals with M8T, the lyrics and melody are slowly pushed into the ears by the conveyor belt of "emotion". M8T is not a fast-paced sound source that emphasizes and is good at transient performance. A more suitable adjective is probably: quiet and good.

Thank you for your replies.

I ordered my M8T from @MusicTeck but have not received a shipment email from them yet. I hope they will follow the good example set by @Shanling and include a leather case as well. The black case is truly classic and the red case is really racy. Usually I would choose a black case, but I'm kind of favoring the red case for a top level DAP like the M8T. I hope I receive my M8T soon and hopefully with a leather case.

Starting the heat test
- apple music streaming high res songs on loop
- gain H, volume 80
- tubes enabled
- downloading my library
- charging

If it doesn't heat up driving the high current needing DCA Stealth while doing this it will never heat up. The only thing I didn't do was put it in a pocket.

Will check back in two hours

Got slightly warm to the touch but nothing alarming. I'll try to just play music while on the inside pocket of a warm jacket, but I have to wait for the Apple Music Download to complete.

Thank you for doing these tests. I am sure, I am not the only one interested in this dap using it as a portable digital "walkman". I have a nice stereo system in home so no need of headphones listening. If I get this device I will have to find a way to keep it dry, living here in UK. Shanling were not to eager to answer how well isolated the tubes are from accidental water splashes, probably because they aren't. And hence the reason I am asking if it gets hot because I am planning to modify the leather case in order to keep dry the tube heatsink/foil. Of course that begs the question will it heats up if not proper ventilation is there. And it seems as if that should not be an issue.
