Introducing LUNA by DUNU, the world's first pure beryllium rolled foil diaphragm flagship dynamic in-ear! (Page 18: Loan Tour Announcement)

I bet you used more computing power than your basic calculator to get it done as well. While the link is generally correct it's not as relatable to a driver the diameter of an in ear. Break up modes are beyond the audible range. The advantage here is that you can have something light enough to use pistonically over a the full bandwidth with enough control, large enough to maintain a shorter, more linear excursion. There's so much more that goes into getting a driver right than just the diaphragm but it's an awesome starting point. I think because of the lack of audio band breakup modes and the extremely high resonance frequency, the stiffest lightest diaphragm works better here than in any other types of (larger) drivers where resonances can be notable.

I don't like the idea of driver flex to help it's excursion characteristics. Flex is energy lost or transformed into another undesirable form. I doubt the Luna exhibits much if any.

Oh definitely --- we learned a lot about the way beryllium diaphragms behaved under a closed-back load inside earphones. They, of course, behave differently from conventional diaphragms, and differently from PVD beryllium diaphragms. We're very proud of what we've been able to achieve with this new driver, and we're hoping more people in the US will finally be able to get a listen during CanJam NYC. Unfortunately, because of a shortage of available units, we can't quite scale out our planned head-fi tours at this moment.

There may be production issues when everybody returns to work too due to the coronavirus.

Wishing everybody at Dunu a healthy and happy new year.

Happy lunar new year to everyone! It has been more trying this year with the outbreak, but we are remaining optimistic, while simultaneously being vigilant and staying safe.

We arranged for additional personal protective equipment to be sent to the factory, and made a donation to the public health effort in Hubei Province. It's not much, but we're doing what we can.

Additionally, we will be monitoring what the provincial government in Guangdong states regarding the date for returning to work. For example, Shanghai has already extended the holiday period to 2/10, but thus far, there has not been any further adjustment for Guangdong Province.

If there are delays to when our factory can resume operation, we will be sure to let everyone know.

So, we have some not so good news. In an effort to contain the novel coronavirus outbreak, Guangdong Province has followed suit and extended the CNY holiday period to 2/10. Our factory will have to resume operations on 2/10.

Currently, there are only three LUNA units outside of China: a prototype in California, a test unit at Head-Fi HQ, and the one @starck86 purchased.

We have 2 listening units sent to Taipei before the CNY break that we will bring to NYC with us, but ZERO units at the factory. Our engineer Andy, had to take a janky plastic mess of a prototype back home.

Thus, this extension will further delay our ability to provide listening units to people, and may even affect the number of units available for people to listen to at CanJam NYC, unfortunately.

However, we will do our best to make sure there is enough to go around.

Ah, so your LuNa was made for and tuned with, literally by using the Cayin N8 BB. Good to know :).

I hope everyone in your team will be just fine with the outbreak. The scariest thing about the virus is that it can transmit and be contagious even before showing symptoms. Stay safe, and be well

No one in our organization has been affected, fortunately.

Well, the N8 is just one DAP that we use to test with. We have multiple DAPs on hand, new and old, such as this:

However, the ultimate reference "portable" rig for us is actually the Sony DMP-Z1. We had it hooked up to LUNA during the Shanghai show and most other meets we've held in China. We won't be able to have it on hand in NYC, though.

Anyone who is planning on attending CanJam in a few weeks should feel free to bring their own source (that's what we have our modular cable system for!)

While LUNA is actually fairly easy to drive, in terms of control, a device with good current output is recommended.

This so much.

In my short experience of trying the Luna with a specialized iPhone dongle, little dongle-DACs, and more recently the SMSL M500 - all will drive the IEM. (To different degrees!)

But IMO the Luna really shines when it’s connected to a dap; it’s almost a completely different experience.

I love the Luna with the N6ii. (It sounded great with the Lotoo 6000 too, if that’s the sound signature you like; only got to audition that for a couple of days...too short!). I get the impression the drivers really shine with a good power source.

For me the N6ii + Luna = perfection

Of course after seeing that pic, now I’ll have to try with the N8. : )

@starck86 when referring to the N6ii you probably should mention the audio motherboard you are using. Unless the Luna sounds equally good with all of them. :)

I should! So far I’ve just had the time to use with the E01, Class AB, high gain. (Class A works better for lower level listening.)

I look forward to testing out the T01 / A01 next as time permits!

Luna should not have Audio 64's lid, so it should not be the same.

Any chance some representative tried out the Luna on a YuLinMe M400 dac/amp?

Don't quite follow --- care to elaborate on the context of this statement?

Not aware of people using it; a popular DAC/amp pairing with LUNA has been the Quloos QLS QA390. Audiophiles in China have sort of been calling it a "poor man's DMP-Z1" (not that it's cheap, but is a fraction of the Z1).

This is not an endorsement of sorts; merely relaying what has worked for people.

...

So I just noticed the cable here. It looks like a thicker version of the stock Luna cable, same Y connector as the Hulk...is this a prototype 'Hulk-Lite'? And, is this one silver coated copper cable? Anyways, looks fun!

Anyone here got to compare them to Campfire Audio's Andromeda Gold?
I will compare next week at CanJam NYC! I've always wanted to try the Andromeda Gold anyways, so I'm curious as well : )

Looking to try the Quloos QLS QA390 as well per Dunu's mention. Seems hard to find in the US though.

Thanks!

Do we know whether they'll have them since they're out of stock?

Or CA always keep one or two ltd editions to tease the crowd :) ?

I actually have no idea, and that’s a good point. I would presume they would have a couple on hand regardless for demos just like Dunu has a few Luna’s on hand. Ask me after CanJam : ).
