Any recommendations on a not too expensive cable (under 50) so I don't have to use the stock one? I wear glasses so thin cables have fared better.

I can really recommend null-audio.com I have quite a few of their cables for various in ears and had never a bad experience.
https://www.null-audio.com/collections/classics-line/products/brevity-s-5n-occ-copper-earphone-cable

This cable can be configured to your liking and costs only $39 SGD (approx $29 USD)

Cheers.

You have a long list of compatible cables to choose at the end of my review, all below 50 (review is in spanish language. Help from the google translator located at the top right of the header):

Modified wire sleeving at the IEM end of OC Sudio Orpheus MK5.5 cable with hot air gun. Now the shape is perfect for my ears. I can listen them endlessly. UP-OCC Copper Litz tamed 3-5kHz peaks. Silver-copper hybrid was too bright.

Anyone compared the R1 to iBasso it01 or DUNU DN-1000?

IT01 is 100 USD while R1 is around 500 USD, so I didn't think they really stand on equal grounds. IT01 is excellent, even compared to 300 USD IEMs, like IE80, but R1 is already one step in another category.

Fair point but I'm wondering more about the comparison in sound signature.

Ask around to see if anyone has both iems, and can give you a comparison. But you cant put these 2 against each other. Single graphene DD vs Beryllium DD and ceramic twitter. It just going to be different. Add filters on top of that. IT01 is a versatile iem that does a lot or things right, for a good price. For me personally R1 excels in clarity, sound stage, low and mid texture, layering and separation. Listening through Hiby R3, sounds pretty good. Or ZuperDacS from the computer, also nice. That iem reveals details in music you might have never picked up with a regular budget iem.
But in this hobby you have to try to see if you are going to like it. Ive bought and sold over 1000$ worth of iems and daps (low to mid tier), before i settled on R3, R1, DH1000, ZuperDacS.

@thug behram - They are similar, depending on the filter used on R1, but generally, IT01 has a warmer overall sound, especially with more bass and mid-bass, but then again, you can tweak R1 to be like that if you want, I just can compare IT01 with the configuration I use the most for R1, which is the pink filters, with the vent closed, as it provides the best textures. In that situation, the signature is mainly different in the sense that R1 is a tad more naturall all over the frequency, IT01 is warmer, a bit smoother.

Make no mistake though, if R1 is a good value for 500USD and if IT01 is a good value for 100USD, it doesn't mean that R1 suddenly becomes less of a good value, it just means that R1 is really good if you have that kind of money

I am going to compare R1 to IT04, which might be a more heated competition.

Thanks that helped a lot.

They have r1 b stocks too that would make it even better value.

Can you compare the treble response of the two? I basically want something with visceral subbass and sharp sparkly treble. Another thing I'm worried about is the comfort of the IMR.

It's definitely got sparkly treble and way better bass soubd quality then my old Be. The comfort in my opinion isn't great for m but for the 315 shipped I paid for b- stock the sound made up for no doubt. If I paid 400 I'd have sent it back simply due too the right side slightly making contact with my lower outer ear under the nozzle area which caused physical fatigue after a while. There is actually paint wear from the contact. The remedy Ive used is too switch the left and right side and there is no contact and there's more room in general.

Now I am really looking forward to what you have to say about that comparison! Been listening to my R1 for the past 7+ months almost exclusevely, but now listening to my IT04 since about last Wednesday. Like the R1 for RnR and Metal, but like the IT04 for everything really.

The treble is great on both, both have nice sparkle, and both make an engaging listen :)

I wouldn't worry too much, on R1 you can always change the treble response with different filters, and it responds fairly well to EQ as well, if you should feel you want more treble than it alreadyt has.

Oh, R1 is great for metal indeed, IT04 is like a real little monster when it comes to doing anything, I agree with that.

I still need a bit more listen to be able to have a very clear opinion on it though, I just got it very recently...
