iFi audio iPower X - The Official Thread

@iFi audio, I see that you’re now selling power cables. i anticipate you’ll start some threads about those. As I observed with the iPower Elite, its noise reduction is very effective but it’s voiced to be neutral and not “warm” sounding in terms of adding warmth or smoothness to the sound. Are your power cables voiced the same way?

I saw the Instagram post and found it interesting that iFi will start offering power cables.
The thread responses will be predictable...

Are they related to your AMR line of cables?
Are those even around still?

Live here now for you two and anyone else interested :) - https://www.head-fi.org/threads/ifi...ocker-nova-and-supanova.957543/#post-16328072

So if one were to use an iPower Elite with a SupaNova power cable, would that be like having the iPower on steroids?

Pretty much. Combining them brings the best of both worlds together!

It's a bit more complex. We design our power cables so they can reduce noise incoming from mains. In that context noise reduction means cleaner background, smoother highs, tighter bass, that sort of thing. Some would take this voicing as elegantly dark even.

Interesting response. I wouldn't call the iPower Elites (x2) as sounding "dark" in my system. I would call them "revealing" if I had to choose a descriptor. I don't think you can generalize something like the "absence of noise," as different power conditioning products (in my experience) result in different changes to the sound.

We got feedback that our power products at first seem dark because along with noise removal they also banish harshness and edginess, and they make background behing instruments more, well, dark.

If course that was not my intent, but good power products on the basic level do similar things :)

Just received my iPower X here in Melbourne. Ordered it to replace the smps of my Netgear wifi extender in my audio room.

And wow! I wasnt expecting this big of a positive change. I used to use a couple regular ipowers to replace the smps of the internet provider’s router and my airport extreme psu in my other system but the iPower X is definitely a step up compared to the regular iPower.

The sound became darker, in a good way. I can hear bigger soundstage, the sound breathes better, longer. Everything sounds more live with less harshness. The treble is more detailed and there is ALOT more oomph in the bass, tight, but not muddy. The bass is bouncy, chewy. It gives my system the icing on the cake.

In this temporary system, the iPower X is powering up a Netgear wifi extender in my 2nd fl audio room, then cat6 cable into my Nuprime Omnia SW8 audio switch powered by a custom lpsu with BlackGate F caps.

I gave the iPower X about 5 hrs of warm up before doing any critical listening. Will I hear more improvements with more hours in the iPower X? @iFi audio thank you!

Hi @iFi audio why isn't the iPower Elite available in 9v while the iPower X is ? I would have liked to try and power my iFi micro iUSB3.0 with it and it requires 9v.

Good question - I'll ask if we have any plans for this one soon.

I'm back to using my (now three) iPower Elites in my system...after adding SupaNova cables to each of the iPowers, I found that the background noise was lower, the transients were crisper, and the bass hit harder with the iPower/SupaNova combo versus using my Keces P8 linear power supply with a SupaNova cable. I have two 15V iPower Elites, one for my music server and one for my iDSD Pro, and one 5V iPower Elite for my network switch. Hard to believe the little iPower units cancel out noise better than the heavy P8 with its big toroidal transformer.

Really, iFi should sell the iPower Elite and SupaNova cable as a package deal. They belong together.

Thanks a lot for your feedback! Our SupaNova is an active product and it stacks nicely with pretty much all power supplies. We haven't considered bundling it with our iPower Elite, but I will pass on your findings internally :)

Compared to using a PS Audio AC-5 power cable with the iPower Elite, the SupaNova was much more effective in reducing background noise. They have a strong synergy.

Before I added the SupaNovas to the chain, I was considering returning the iPower Elites back to Amazon.

Great to hear that you decided to keep them in your lineup!
