iFi audio iPower X - The Official Thread
Jan 2, 2024 at 8:07 PM Post #496 of 505
. . . have never seen a USB-B DC input. Once had a [Topping E50] DAC with, I believe, a micro-USB (B) DC input and got the Topping P50 linear power supply which had an option for a micro-USB out . . .
Odd, isn't it. It's a brand new device and quite small so I was surprised that he didn't use a USB-C socket. I suggested it for the next iteration.
Looks like the 5v Elite comes with a pair of USB adapters:

Looks like a USB-C (?) and a micro-B (?) adapter?
I believe so - everything except what I need! :) Oh well, time to dig out the snips and soldering iron unless someone knows of an adaptor.

Follow up from other thread... (Previous inquiry)

It is completely my fault as I failed to answer the question you asked of me in the iPower X Thread. I make no excuses other than at the time of your inquiries I was coming back from surgery, and quite simply didn't see this addressed there again after your question in early December, It is my fault.

I will address this here on this thread as to not disrupt this one...

https://www.head-fi.org/threads/ifi-audio-ipower-x-the-official-thread.926656/

Please check there and I will answer your inquiry just as soon as I can. I will also post this message there so we are on the same page.

Apologies, and feel free to PM me in the future if there is anything urgent, or fill out a support ticket for any unanswered questions here...

Cheers!!

Thank you for your inquiry.
Unlike typical power supplies that often feature a single chassis, the iPower Elite boasts a robust design with two or three distinct chassis layers (depending on the different versions):

Version A:
1. An inner plastic-insulated chassis, serving the purpose of electrical safety.
2. An external aluminium alloy metal chassis, designed for both mechanical durability and aesthetic appeal.
This version of iPower Elite is double-insulated.

Version B:
1. An inner plastic-insulated chassis, serving the purpose of electrical safety.
2. An inner grounded and earthed metal chassis, which provides both electrical safety and EMI shielding.
3. An external aluminium alloy metal chassis, designed for both mechanical durability and aesthetic appeal.
This version of the iPower Elite is double-insulated and additionally incorporates chassis grounding.

I again apologize for letting you slip through the cracks, (Completely on Me) and in the future don't hesitate to PM me with any Urgent matters!

Cheers!!

Thank you for the reply Ifi

I want to ask if it is possible for me to exchange my two elite units from an A to version B?

And thank you for the detailed descriptions, but you didn’t answer regarding if version A is safe to use and lives up to safety regulations and requirements?

Like others pointed out I am concerned about safety as I have two units one at my router in the basement under my children’s room and one in the living room used with your zenStream, one that is easy for them to access.

Your description of version A sounds as if it is just an ifi power X in a metal enclosure, which is puzzling me so could you help me understand.

Looking at safety regulations regarding classification and from your description it seems that you have classified Version A as a class II device. But under section EN 60335-1 it states that regardless of insulation - double or not - if the device has provision for earthing it is regarded as a Class I under the safety regulations.

You also provide us with a 3 wire plug, a power cord with an earth connection to use with it. Again, making it a class I which regulations states that if the unit becomes faulty my children or others can’t get an electric shock by touching the metal parts of the units because it’s been bonded to earth.

Furthermore, Class II devices should be clearly marked with a certain IEC symbol which mine is missing. Which again, marks it as a class I under the safety regulations or am I missing something?

I think it would be best for you to fill out a Ticket to get these questions answered for yourself directly, as I (personally) have no knowledge of electrical specifications.

Please submit a ticket here,

https://support.ifi-audio.com/

I want you to get the answers you require, unfortunately, I am not the one to do that, I hope you can understand that, and once again apologies to you.

For your assurance, I am also going to copy and paste your entire post and send it to HQ so they are aware of. Please again do the ticket thing so we can get you sorted out properly.

Cheers!!

According to device report, the iPower was registered with ERAC. But not iPower Plus, Elite or X.

https://device.report/abbingdon-global

Of course, the device report database may be incomplete or the devices mentioned are not for sale in Australia.

You should ask your HQ to provide you with the official test reports from accredited third party testing facilities (which are mandatory for items sold in the EU, USA, CA, AUS, NZ and many other other areas) to post here, so you can dispell any doubts about the electrical safety issues.

These will state that the products are safe to use. Simple, clear and unambiguous.

I think HQ should also make sure to pre-emptively file these reports with the relevant consumer protection agencies, even where, like in the EU this is not a legal requirement. This way your customers can easily confirm if their items are safe, or not.
