iFi audio iPower X - The Official Thread

..I like the white/cream colour theme

Thanks!

The objection with the black extension cables is valid, though.

I hear you, and that's a fair point.

I have 2 iPower X in my system and like them very much. In some cases I prefer it to a linear power supply, especially with all-digital gear like network devices and so on.

Very cool, thanks! If I may ask, what kind of linear PSU do you have?

I used to have a Keces P8 (replaced with 2x ifi ipower X) and am still using the Shanti from Allo..

Thanks a lot. Out of curiosity, what iPower X did better to your ears than that Keces device?

Hard to tell (for me anyways), but I feel the soundstage expanded with better staging and the music plays with more ease. I didn't experience such a big improvement with the Keces. But it's trial and error in my experience which power supply works best with which device.

Thanks for your input and I agree. Of course the more silent power supplies are, the better, and this is universal. But we got feedback that some devices favor switching PSUs more. Trial and error!

..also the iPower Plus works well with my Nuc and gets barely warm by doing so, as I found out that my Nuc accepts a variety of voltages in comparison to most standard intel Nucs that require 19v, and my version consumes rather little energy (max 30w).

There you have it then :L3000:

All power supplies will show some voltage drop due to accumulated DCR from cable, connectors etc. In fact, testing with a worn DC socket might show less voltage than is actually present at the plug under load. If the local voltage at nominal 115V is low, it may cause the power supply to start to current limit early.

The 4.96V at 2A load represents less than 1% less than the nominal voltage, at 3A you get around 5% drop over nominal value. The first is excellent, the second a bit more thanwe'd like to see for a 3A rating, but without knowing how the test was done, it's hard to say.

Just found out that the Nirvana SMPS only supplies around 5.0V voltage when there's a load of 2.85A, with no load it's 5.2V. So basically the same effect from a different starting point.

For me, I sold my Ultracap's LPS 1-2 and I am exclusively on the ipower X now, why ... beacause i have absolutly no difference in my sound whit LPS 1.2 vs the ipower X...that says a lot about the quality of the product "finish to spending a fortune on LPS". My only question, who had the idea to put this white and tan , why just not black like all my other connections
🤷‍♂️

@iFi audio, I hesitated to change my last LPSU that feeds my DAC because it mentions on the DAC 15V 1.7A and the ipower X supplied 1.5A...in your opinion is there any danger for 0.2A?

Yeah, I hear you, I already got feedback similar to yours and it was passed on internally at our company :)

I don't think your DAC is in danger, but how it does with lower amperage I can't say. I'd ask your DAC's manufacturer to know for sure, but I imagine that it'll work.

I wouldn't exceed the specs, but that's my experience. I too think the iPower X is a marvelous device and super easy to use, but the max. ampere rating is there for a reason. And as every power supply, it gets hotter the bigger the load is, so you could touch the iPower X and check if the temperature still feels safe. Regarding the often mentioned dislike for the white/cream color theme, maybe sometime in the future ifi comes up with an iPower X black label. :deadhorse:

At some point we might, all feedback we got in this thread was collected. Of course this doesn't mean anything re our plans for the future, but I will say that we take into account input of this community :)

Will my netgear switch labeled 12V 0.5A work with ifi i power x12 V/2.0A.

What sound improvements could be expected with this tweak?
