I have a matrix x-hi usb card that allows an external power supply
I had an ipower which was not bad vs the computer power supply
I changed it to the ipower x
Glad I found the weakest link in my system. - nothing against the ipower
But the ipower x required a rebalance of my system
Bass increased significantly
I have been messing for a few weeks now
The beauty of audiophilia you never know the direction it will take you

Of course, putting a dedicated external power supply for your matrix will make a huge difference against the PCIE power supply of your PC.

Bought an iPower X 9V for my Koss ESP/95X’s amp/energizer but it has introduced a 60Hz hum! The hum goes away when the audio source, a MacBook Pro, is plugged into a wall outlet. When the MBP is running on battery, the hum goes away only when I touch the MBP’s chassis, so it seems to be a grounding issue. The hum is there even when the amp/energizer is not plugged into the audio source. The hum goes away when I return to the stock power supply. Does anybody know what is likely going on here? I prefer the iPower X to the stock power supply if only because the iPower X stays cool and is less bulky. So I would like to keep it. I can simply keep the MBP plugged in when I listen to music, but of course only if the hum is not a sign of some potentially serious compatibility issue.

If you know the source of hum, our Groundhog is a nicely effective and affordable way to get rid of it!

Yes, I know the source of the hum: it's the iFi iPower X. Now you're saying I should buy the iFi Groundhog to get rid of the hum that the iFi iPower X introduced.

But why is the iPower introducing the hum in the first place? When I switch back to the stock power supply the hum goes away.

There's always a chance that you got a faulty iPower X, or your MacBook has some grounding issues. Whatever the reason might be, can you please open up a ticket at our support platform and let us know?

Perhaps our tech staff encountered a case similar to yours and will know what to do :)

Thanks. Will do. I will note that the hum is present even when I disconnect the ESP/95X amplifier from the MacBook, so the issue isn't the latter.

Yes, it seems that this excludes your MBP as the suspect. But I hope that our tech staff wii get to the bottom of this.

Hello. I am planning to purchase idefender+ and Ifi 5V / 3A Power X power supply for my Ifi nano ione DAC. Are they compatible? I am confused by the current strength of 3A, because only 0.9A is transmitted via usb 3.0.

It does not matter that the iPower X (or any power supply) is capable of supplying more current than is needed. The load device will draw only as much current as it requires.
