Bad marketing!

We beg to disagree :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

But I hear what everyone here has to say, be it good or bad, and it's clear that the HF community would like to have iP X all black. I passed on this nfo to our internal team.

black extension cables

It would be good to have these extensions white, yes. But white iP X worked well, so I stand where I am :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think that everything on the color subject was said already and, again, I noted interest in iP X all black.

Buy one online and try it. Send it back if you don't like it. Don't forget to tell us what you think of it..haha

That's what I'd suggest as well. That's the simplest way and these days returns are very easy and safe.

To my ears it sounds better than the Sbooster MK2 when powering my Chord Qutest.

I always do my research before I do this; reading reviews etc.

Btw.: This is what the famous John Swenson wrote about the ifi-ipower old model:

"The iPower 9V (the only one I have measured) has the highest leakage current of any supply I have ever measured.

When you look at the leakage current itself on a scope you usually see something that resembles a sine wave at line frequency (leakage after all comes from the AC line), but not the iPower, it has a very weird waveform that seems to have little to do with the AC line. I don't think I saved a picture of this so I can't share it, but it is truly strange.

So just from that I KNOW the iPower internals are very different than any other SMPS I have seen. No clue whether that is good or bad per se, but the high leakage current gives me pause, I don't think I would ever use one.

Leakage shouldn't be high to begin with. Generally speaking, iPower & iPowerX employ a special transformer design to reduce EMI and thus allow a much smaller value of a "Y-capacitor" in a circuit, which is why there's 10 to 40 times less capacitance in the that component that what is found in standard designs. This means 10 to 40 times less leakage current.

Additionally, the Y-Capacitor does not directly connect to the mains (as is common) but to the rectified DC bus of a power supply, so the leakage waveform will be more like that of an unregulated DC power line, unless the mains wiring is "balanced".

That's why this comment on a high level of measured leakage current suggests either a defect, or a problem in the method used to measure.

Thank for replying and explaining. What John Swenson wrote was about the first iFi iPower. I sold both my basic IFi iPowers and bought 2 new iFi iPowers X 5v and 9v, and did soms black tape around them. The sound is better compared with the old (basic) ones, I think. Perhaps I will buy a third one for my EtherREGEN switch.

My pleasure and thanks for giving iPower X a chance. If I can provide explanations on how we do things, I gladly will. Thanks again!

..I like the white/cream colour theme :disappointed_relieved: The objection with the black extension cables is valid, though. I have 2 iPower X in my system and like them very much. In some cases I prefer it to a linear power supply, especially with all-digital gear like network devices and so on.
