I wasn't able to attend the RMAF this weekend. Did you make any announcements regarding iFi Micro IDSD Black Label product and MQA, and specifically, whether MQA would be made available on existing IDSD Black Label DACs through firmware updates?

For now all we can say is that MQA will be implemented in future iFi audio products, nano iDSD Black Label is MQA capable and we're exploring the possibility for MQA upgrades applied to our previously released devices.

No dates we can share for now, sorry. Head-fi.org is the very first place we'll publish any MQA nfo there is once we're ready.

What is the technical reason for volume being always higher when input is from USB versus coax? @iFi audio

There isn't one. If the iDSD micro BL is fed with a 'digital full scale' signal, regardless of it being USB or SPDIF, signal levels are 100% identical.

This suggests that your S/PDIF Source is not a "direct pass-trough", but that some form of volume adjustment and/or other processing happens.

It may be needed to adjust a specific settings in the device, driver etc. or simply to make sure a source's volume control (if present) is turned to maximum.

Whatever the solution, it needs to be sought with the source.

What’s strange is that I’m currently using Sennheiser HDV800 and when compared to the iDSD BL using my Sennheiser 800S the music sounds more dynamic and is more to my liking. The Sennheiser holds its own, just a different flavor.

We strongly believe that great sounding products can be affordable. Of course skilled R&D team, smart business model and some other things are needed to pull this off. But when we read posts such as yours we tend to think that we are heading in the right direction. Thank you for nice feedback!

I agree with what @wldcohso said. The iDSD BL punches way above its asking price. I think it is the best priced and best preforming amp/dac available in portable right now.
