IBasso DX50 vs Fiio X3 comparison thread

I like the AK120 but it's pricey.
It cost more than the iBasso DX100.
The DX100 offers less GB SD, DX100 has onboard 64GB and supports up to 32GB SD.
The DX50 offers 8GB onboard and supports up to 2TB external SD.
I'll probley grab the DX50 and buy the DX100 later.
The DX100 accepts 64GB cards formatted to FAT32

Has anyone tried the X3 EQ? I saw that the DX50 has a very good EQ which can be controlled on the touch-screen very well. but I have no clue how cam you use the EQ on the X3...

It doesn't really have EQ, per se.....just Bass and Treble controls.

I have a small question: it's a bit unclear from their websites if both models support SD cards, or only microSD. May anyone shed some light please? I have a couple of "large" SDs already and it would be nice to use them.

The X3 takes up to 64 GB Micro SD.  The IBasso DX50 website lists "Support SDXC and SDHC MicroSD card, up to 2TB".

Here are the specs for both:

How good exactly is the wolfson WM8740 DAC? I hadn't realized, but it seems a lot of devices in the $80-200 price range use this chip, and i'm curious as to how it measures up to the ESS ES9023 sabre?

The wording of the specifications for the DX50 is poorly written. I believe they mean that the DX50 will be able host an external HDD via USB. 64gb internal on a microSD and up to two TB via hosted external HDD. If implemented well, it could be a great feature. Unfortunately there are many ways it could be implemented poorly...

iBasso is stating that the DX50 will take up to the 2TB limit of the SDXC card, obviously, when it is available, whenever that might be. The DX100 does not take the SDXC cards. I am not sure why an external HD would be limited to two TB.

2TB is the maximum size allowed for FAT32 HDDs on *some* operating systems. I'm not expecting any TB microSD cards anytime soon.

Me neither but I think what they are getting at is that it is full SDXC ready. What I want is some solid state HD's that are reasonable in price but they seem to be slow in coming down.
