Altec Lansing iM716: 20$ (thanks to some sweet newegg deal)
DAP of your choice: 300$

Invest the other 680$ on music or home audio.

I would go with facelvega's proposition, or just get ES-2 and have 300 left for a DAP. =]

Yeah, depends on whether you can deal with a predominantly open rig, or need closed.

Lets see ...

1. Used iModded 4th Gen iPod Photo 60Gb: About $325
2. Revelation Audio 99.999% Cryo Silver IC: About $90
3. MiniBox-E+: About $180
4. Shure E530 or 500, or Triple Fi, or UM2, or ATH ESW9

BTW, there is no perfect solution, but there are some very good ones out there. Good luck.

I'm using iPod Nano 3G 8Gb, Qables SilverCab LOD, Meier Corda 2Move and Westone UM2 (ultra portable) or Alessandro MS-1 (portable

).
