I used MDR-7506's from mid 90's till I moved out of NYC in 2004 as my portable phones.

I used to use large headphones when on the go when I was younger, but I have come to the conclusion later in life that IEMs are the way to go when on the move.  Easier to move, typically easier to drive, less ear sweat/discomfort and fewer people notice your belongings.

Denon D1001 are my portable phone, and I wouldn't wear anything bigger. Even studio monitors like M50 and Shure SRH's I find it too bulky. I wouldn't mind taking it around the neighborhood, but certainly not in public transportation.

When I lived in Texas a few years ago I got around with a Segway (all employees got one for free, no I'm not Paul Blart). I always wore my HD-800 (and a Sansa Fuze) but I flipped over the handlebars and broke them when I hit a curb and landed on my head. Unfortunately my warranty did not cover it. I tried to do a claim but Sennheiser hung up on me. For $2,800, (mine was recabled) you'd think they'd come with free accidental coverage! I glued all 12 pieces back together but I only get bass from the left driver.

BTW In Indiana once I saw a guy in a Tata Nano wearing a K1000. I wonder which cost more?

XB1000s. Only for the 70 mm drivers. Besides that, IEMs all the way. I use a $5 radioshack set when i'm in rougher areas around town and then UE3s if it's mostly daily commute.

I haven't done so in a while, but a lot of times I go out with my DT770s. Yeah, I coil the cable and tie it with velcro.

Lately I've been wearing my ATH-ES7s more, since they're much more portable; even then, sometimes I'll go to campus with my DT770s in their carry case (more often on Thursdays, when my Touhou/tea club meets) if I'm staying for more than a class or two.

I'm getting a pair of KOSS KSC75s, so I'll be playing with those when they come in (pre-re-padded with Senn PX200 pads too).

oh god, What

you actually took your HD800 recabled outside?
man, and even more crazy wearing it on a Segway 0_0

What's wrong with that? The Segway is totally safe. I've only fallen off of it twice this week, but it needs new tires.
I always race it on the highway against my friend's VOLT (he works for GM). I don't have an HD-800 anymore, so I had to buy a helmet instead.
Those things aren't cheap. Mine cost $75...what a rip off. I means, seriously, what is the chance I would actually land on my head...again!

totally safe? tell that to your shattered HD800's!  I wore my CD2000's (slightly larger than DT880's) outside for years, I have switched to PortaPro's and other Koss offerings (lifetime warranty FTW)

I'll be using Sony MDR V6 once I get them, hopefully soon!!! IEMs are uncomfortable for me. My inner left ear is slightly smaller than my right... so I would always have to adjust them every 5 mins. Plus it seemed like more earwax formed with IEMs.... eewww
