the order link posted in this thread seems to go to a blank page, and I don't see any mention of this product on the main head-direct site :frowning2:

does anyone know how i can get hold of one of these now? preferably in a package with the 801 since its really the balanced module that has finally pushed me over the edge to get one

No, it's slightly different from the one in the op which does indeed not work

Per my post in Joker's IEM thread, HiFiMan have 3 IEMs with balanced TRRS cables which will plug straight into the amp module - RE-ZERO, RE-262 and the new flagship, RE-272. Joker auditioned the latter with the balanced amp and did feel that it was an upgrade over the 272 from the 801 in single-ended mode, but left the issue of VFM dangling. Personally, I can see how quickly this combination would become an excuse to start buying HiFiMan orthos : clever strategy on Fang's part.

VFM is more of an issue to those who own RE272 with no balanced amp, but not much an issue at all for those who already own a balanced amp and looking for an IEM that will take advantage of it. If anything, RE272 is the only IEM I have heard that really (really) shines with balanced output. It is made for HM801's balanced amp module, so to speak.

You bet.  The HE-500s are a particularly good match with the HM-801/balanced amp module combo.  For extended listening sessions you want to have the 801 powered by the AC-adapter because driving the HE-500s require a lot more juice than IEMs, but the sound is definitely there.  The HE-300s are very efficient, though.

Yes the HE-500 sound excelent balanced from 801 but the battery only last about 5-6 hours at most

Battery time is actually more like 4 hours in balanced mode driving HE-500.

Am now listening to the balanced 801 as a usb dac/amp from my pc and plugged into AC and this is also very, very good and then battery life is no issue

Fantastic. 4 hours.

How long does it take to recharge ? I'm unimpressed with the time my T51 is taking to recharge, but at least I'm getting 10 hours out of it.

I have today managed to get hold of a balanced RE-262 that a fellow Danish head-fi’er has just bought but don’t like (well it is iem’s in general he don’t like not the RE-262 specifically). I already liked the RE-262 a lot from the demo and raffle price sample that Fang sent for our Danish October meet last year but balanced from the HM-801 with balanced amp module they are really something else. This must be what they were designed for. Just fantastic.

Hi, warp08 ! Congratulation for your test of the Hm-801 balanced amplifier module. Could you tell me what is the complete Whiplash configuration you have chosen to equip the He-500 ? Sorry for my English... I am French but I try to do my best to make my message understandable ! Thanks in advance. David
