HiFiMan Susvara

I am impressed at how much they increased the output power on the TT2. Correct me if I am wrong, because this is not what I do, but isn't it even more than the Dave? The Abyss Phi is just okay connected directly to the Dave, but the Susvara is noticeably anemic. Not enjoyable, at all! If the TT2 can drive the Susvara with authority, that might be a better route than the Niimbus, no? What if there is an upgrade to the Dave in the near future... Sometimes I wonder if just biting the bullet and getting the HE1 might be saving in the long run.

Yes, far more power output than the DAVE. Makes me wonder if the DAVE output is entirely class A, since the Hugo TT 2 isn't. I'd put money on the TT 2 beating the Niimbus though, since the Hugo TT 2 will just be a really difficult DAC to beat for the price, and not having to add another amp in front of it will prevent you from further reducing transparency, and there are no opamps in the signal path of the Hugo TT 2 as a bonus.

I also think the HE-1 is overrated purely due to its price. I don't think it's in a different class at all than the SR-009, and I find the SR-009 to be more technically impressive, not that I listened to the HE-1 for long though.

TT2 is about $4750, Dave can range in new condition btwn sellers from 8 to 12k.

Hugo TT 2 is $5,795 actually. Largely increased price compared to the TT.

I spent an entire hour at the Sennheiser store in San Francisco with the HE1 by myself in the private listening room. The cute connoisseur girl was there the whole time, and she began by playing with my Sony camera (the plot thickens...). Anyways, the realism you get from Susvara with Pro iDSD -> P1 is as good or even better than the HE1. You get similar sense of space in terms of width, but HE1 cannot be touched in terms of front to back depth.

It varies at the place. I can get a new TT 2 btwn 4.5-4.7k and if I talk my way down, i can get a few hundred off, not including this upcoming black friday.

DAVE has ~2W output, and TT2 has ~18W (huge step up). I'm very happily using my DAVE to directly drive my Voxativ 9.87 single driver high efficiency speakers. I'm very eager to see if the TT2 can deliver that same kind of direct transparency to the Susvara and Abyss Phi

Fingers crossed my luck is as good as yours, because that's a heck of a lot more appealing than $5,795. Can't wait to finally listen to the Susvara out of it.

Guys,

Slightly off topic, but I'm thinking about getting a network streamer such as the UltraRendu or the Auralic offerings to further improve sound. I actually only listen to my headphone in my office by my computer, so going network route is purely for getting cleaner sound. Currently I run a Paul Pang USB card -> iFi iSilencer -> Pro iDSD which galvanically isolated, so the USB signal should be very clean. I also thought about adding ISO Regen with LPS before Pro iDSD. Maybe all this is a waste. I'm wondering if anyone else has played around with any of the above options. I'm pretty set in terms DAC/AMP/Headphone.

I own ifi audio micro iusb 3.0, nano galvanic & mercury 3.0 cables. I am using them with Hugo 2 . The improvement is huge imho. Some people on hugo2 thread do not believe in this but I trust my ears. The difference is noticeable right from the first few seconds. My friends who have listened to my setup also agree with me. Direct listening from an USB port is not good imho.

You should also consider Metrum Acoustics Ambre for Roon digital bridge. It is an impressive all in one option. I was flattered by Metrum Onyx NOS R2R DACs sound signature. I preferred it over my hugo2 on almost all the tracks.

I noticed that on their website, Chord claims that the DAVE is their only product that surpasses the TT 2.

Jude said in one of his Headfi TV episodes said that TT2 -> Susvara is the best paring he has heard the Susvara. Of course take it with a grain of salt with strong sponsor bias. It does present as one nice single box solution for the Susvara.

Yes, I believe that TT2 is very good and sufficient for Susvara but, for us with Dave (and HMScaler), the question remains really tough: (HMS>)TT2 vs (HMS>)Dave>ExternalHeadAmp for Susvara? I.e.: Keep/sale Dave and/or buy TT2 for Susvara?

I am awaiting the Hugo M Scaler soon and I am not sure what to buy next. I would like to keep my Dave. Without Dave, I would buy TT2 for Susvara instantly. But with Dave, I am not sure. TT2 is just one of multiple options, except for several headamp candidates. And it is not possible to audition them all locally at the same time...

I understand the decisiveness for you can be imperceptible having to select between the DAVE, TT2, P1, and Niimbus. TT2 comes close to price in Dave with obtainment with M Scaler.

Yes, and I already have Dave and M Scaler soon. The amp decision is not easy at all: With the HMS, the question can be perhaps reduced to headamps: TT2 or Niimbus or ??? I may stick with the iFi Pro iCan after all...

I have not upgraded the stock cables and do not feel any urge/need to do so at the moment...
