HiFiMan Susvara

I tried Susvara out of the speaker tabs of MHA100 (50W per channel) and NAD M22 (300W per channel). Compared to the P1, M22 sounds very similar to the P1. You basically get close to what I think is Susvara's full potential. P1 and M22 are clearly better than MHA100. Susvara when driven to full potential should sound very full, open with precise imaging. You want 3W per channel out the amp. The P1 is about 5W-6W balanced.

Some reviewers say the XIAudio Formula S sounds better than P1, but I'm not sure how much better it can make the Susvara sound, but for the $2000 price difference, I'll stick with the P1. I think I'm still the only owner of the P1 amp who also has Susvara. I did have another local headfi friend listen to the P1, and he pretty much agrees, so take it with a slight grain of salt.

I have the formula s with the susvara and it is wonderful, I have never heard the P1 but i can say one would have to spend a fortune to get much better than the formula s IMHO

I am confused as many have stayed that the Susvara needs at least 50 w to shine and reach its full potential. Only the Enigma or Headtrip headphone amps can get this power otherwise need a speaker amp with drive from speaker taps.

Not sure but when I demo'd the Susvara on the Formula S it seemed to be plenty sufficient in power. Output is about 6W? Similar to P1 I think.

IMO, the right generalization to make is that the Susvara needs sufficient power to shine, and this is something that speaker amps can provide but that many headphone amps will not.

Getting more specific than that probably isn't possible since there are all the other factors that make an amp sound good aside from its raw wattage rating, blah blah.

Having said that, it's a shame that amp power ratings aren't usually provided at varying impedance levels...

the formula s is more than ample in terms of power and casts a wonderful wide soundstage.....highly recommended

You mean stereo power amps? If so, power into 8/4 ohm loads is what most people after such products need. Power amps used with headphones are kinda exotic!

Speaker amps, for sure (which makes sense, as you note), but headphone amps, too.

One example -- which really chafes my backside, being a current owner of one -- is the Woo Audio WA33, which is listed, ultra-vaguely, as having "up to 10 watts per channel" (presumably that would be at 8 ohms, but as a headphone amp, how does that even make sense? :/ ).

Or as another example, a quick visit to the GS-X mk2 product page shows no power rating listed at all. Even though in that case, I'm pretty sure a year or so ago, they used to list a power rating at four different impedance values. But oh well.

Has anyone compared the Susvara to the Mysphere 3.2 and RAAL-Requisite SR1a in terms of midrange, treble detail retrieval and imaging? I assume the Susvara would have a better low end but in other areas wondering how they compare. It seems that the Mysphere is very efficient and can be driven by DAVE?

MySphere headphones can be driven very well straight by Chord DAVE, even 3.2 version of MySphere. DAVE is powerful enough to drive any dynamic headphones. Only for some power hungry planar magnetics I recommend something more powerful or dedicated amp.

We hear you, but then again many manufacturers would provide a potential customer with this nfo, we believe. Right?
