I actually use a one-off custommade Blue Circle Audio PaG..a headphone amp specifically designed and made only to drive the great he6 at its best possible...

and i have to say..the he1000 is harder to drive then i expected..

my he5 based code-x i had needed power on 9 o'clock volume level to sound perfectly and was known not easy to drive..

but the he1000 i have needs volume on 12 o'clock position to sound on its best to my ears (i have sensitive ears)...amp still has reserves..volume goes to 6pm position...so luckily it doesnt need to stress out..

Monday i hope to receive the v2 ultra pads and some brainwavz hybrid pads (for the foam mod i read about)..wish me luck in doing the mod in combo with the new pads :)

The HiFiMAN's own EF-6 amp bested other amps I compared it to, and it's available used for well within your budget.

I am curious what other amps you compared the EF-6 to. I demo'ed the EF-6 and wasn't very impressed with it (but that was a few years back).
Sennheiser HDVD800, Schiit Lyr 2, Joseph Grado HPA-8, CEntrance HiFiM8, and HiFIMAN EF-5. Here's more detail.

Hi all - is it worth upgrading my HE1000v2 to the Susvara? I recently upgraded from v1 to v2 for my HE1000 and honestly I was quite underwhelmed by the improvement, if any.

I did find some improvement going v1 to v2, but it's small, as you said. Also curious how much improvement you would get going to Susvara;my impression from the little I've read, is that it is also small. Have to hear it somewhere.

When I went from the V1 to V2 I thought the bass became more punchy and taunt by comparison. I also thought the upper end gained more detail and clarity. I guess those could be considered small improvements but they were welcomed ones to my ears.

Heard them as well, do make an improvement, but I think they are relatively small.

Ok..i did the foam mod and now put the v2 pads on my he1000... v2 pads gave a slightly improvement..but the foam mod of maxx gave it a real push in sound...i tried it as a test..so i didnt cleanly cut the foam out..but goddamn..it works..you can especially hear the difference on huge orchestras where the hek could loose coherence..now the sound stays rock stable and lets u hear the small details everywhere...the midbass is now more fleshy..more thump thump instead of bommy bass..treble is less piercy also...violins sound more real now and pianos... the sound is now like a powerful tube amp with clean sounding (not mellow) tubes in them...but remarkable...sound can be listened higher without getting tired of it..
.. impressed! 140usd well spend! (V2 ultra pads and brainwavz hybrid pads for foam mod)

I will listen to this for a few weeks to see if its my brain fcking with me or if its a real improvement.

if so then i will ask a friend to cut me perfect measured foam inserts (of the second not used brainwavz pad) to replace the ones i made in 10min with my two left hands, with a simple pair of scissors and measured on sight..lolz

To be honest..i dont know..you have to ask him..i think hifiman partly solved it while making the cups thinner and the new ultra psds and some extra dampening.but as i just said...dont know..for the v1 it works..well..as long my brain is not messing with me..over the next weeks i will have some friends over with very good ears for music....but for now i am happy with the result..it looks cheap if you take off pads as i used a regular sharp scissors..will replace it in a few weeks..am to lazy to take off pads again..they didnt click easily back in..they kept on popping out of clips...

Here a pic of how max showed me
