Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

1. Will they sound significantly better than other TOTL headphones (e.g., HD800; LCD-X; etc) to justify paying double the price for them?
3. Does any type of music sound great with them, or are they specialists with a specific type of music?

After reading impressions from a recent meet from a bunch of people who were not enamoured with the HE-1000 on an earlier outing, it does sound like they are at another level. Several like Purrin were saying they preferred it to Stax due to being essentially on the same kind of level technically, while offering a signature they liked better.

I would imagine like HiFiMans other offerings with their neutral tuning and top-to-bottom frequency response that these are more likely to be good over nearly all genres. That's an important quality for me, and part of why I love my HE-6.

Thanks, Pot!  I think those are the ones, though in seeing them, they don't raise the headphone up, but keep it below the level of the table (sort of like the Koss one here):

Have to keep looking (and sure expensive... but at least there is now a name to check other sources with)!

Thanks!

I would highly recommend this stand. Tall enough to fit all current Hifiman, Audeze, AKG (etc) headphones. Price point is competitive against alternative stands using the same materials (such as the Woo stands). Can hold up to two headphones. Has a hanging design so earpads do not touch anything and a rounded top so the headband will not get deformed. I own one and I am very happy with it. Planning on purchasing the black version as well once it shows up on Amazon (should be within a week or two).

Hope this information is helpful.

I was looking at this exact stand for the exact same reasons. I had an acrylic Omega stand that always squished the pads of the headphones I put on them. I love the aesthetic and the price of the chinese Omega stands, but I'd prefer a rounded-top brushed aluminum stand with no pad interaction, so this is perfect. Still more than I'd like to spend on a stand at this exact point in time. Plus I need a dust cover. Does anyone know of any good options other than the STAX CPC-1? So expensive for a piece of plastic...

I'm looking for a headphone stand that will clamp onto the edge of the stand that holds my amps, etc and sticks up, so I can put it at the back.   Sort of like this (substitute headphone holder for meat grinder, or hang headphones on wooden handle):

Any one know of such a thing (I think I read somewhere that Sennheiser used to sell one but doesn't any more).  Thanks!

I have one made by k&m and bought it at b&h. It's more expensive than the old sennheiser one but pretty similar.

I am definitely hoping that they just suck with classical music...them sucking with classical would mean that I won't have to pony up with the $3000!!!

There was a review done on another website comparing the 009+bhse and he1k and the new hifiman amp in a quiet enviroment and while he thought the typical split between stat and planar would happen with planar liking rock and electronic and stat liking classical and acoustic he ended up preferring the he1k all around not just rock and electronic. The jist of it said that those who like the 007mk1 over the 009 for its more relaxed nature are not likely to go for the he1k as it makes the 009 sound relaxed. He said while the soundstage was smaller on the he1k it sounded more accurate, detailed and live than the 009 and with even classical and acoustic he liked it just a bit more.

He did say that it was within a few percentage points and the bhse sounds like it will be quite a bit less expensive (maybe half) than the new hifiman amp and the 009 from pricejapan is actually less than the he1k retail. Also stock tubes in the bhse.

Think a burson soloist would power these properly?

My guess would be yes. I tried a soloist with the HE 560 and it pairs just fine. based on numbers alone the he1000 should be a little easier to drive than the 560. Whether its a good pairing or not is a different story though

I have the 3 below:

1)  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LPZBD6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is out of production and used to be $20-30, as you can see from other posts this is now over $100 and not worth it.

2)  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LDVQ04/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is a very nice alternative, not as good as the Sennheiser and a little flimsy in comparison but it gets the job done.  One nice bonus is the hook swivels.

3)  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BT7ERS4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I think I saw the same on in Lojay's HE-1000 picture, and it may be the one that @rawrster is referring to above.  For me this is the best of the three, when I bought it just two months ago on Amazon it it was only $45.  It is larger than the other two, but by far the sturdiest, plus due to its length you can have it hold two headphones.  Due to the amount of locations you can put the hook on, this is by far the most versatile of the three.  The only drawback may be it's size.

They come with balanced, 1/4 & 1/8 if that's what your asking. Not sure how long yet.

Anyone know how the cabling is with the new HE 1000? Considering preordering from Moon Audio and get the Silver Dragon V3 cable, but want to know if the stock is solid or not.

They're terminated like the Oppo PM line. 3.5mm TRS plugs at the headphone connectors and whatever you'd like on the other end. As far as internal mats go, no idea. If the demo units from AXPONA were any indication, they're sleeved in a fairly flexible polyurethane. If comfort is what you're worried about, the demo unit cables were pretty light and not very long. 4.5-5 ft would be my guess.

Hmm, 4.5-5 ft. won't cut it for me, I need 6 ft. to my drinking/relaxing chair, sounds like I may need to order a custom cable after all.
