i really doubt they sound better than he560.  max quality threshold for cans reach up to 1K for headphones and 10000K for speaker. good rule of thumb

The jump in sound quality do not match the jump in price after HE-560. The difference is subtle and very personal that it may not be worth the upgrade for some. But you can't always assume anything unless you listen to it. Even the HE-6 compared to HE-560 certainly sound different. But it's up to that person whether the difference in sound is worth the difference in price.

The change is definitely more noticeable than, say, switching from AK240 to AK380. And there are even better phones out there. For example, I think that as good as the HE1000 is, it still can't touch the SR009 in terms of clarity and transparency. Some may enjoy the HE1000 more (mostly due to bass quantity), but to me, the SR009 is still the technically superior headphone to HE1000 (or any planar magnetic headphone for that matter).

SR009 may not sound as versatile as the planars (which sometimes sound good anyway even with mediocre source and amp) and would take some time for you to find the best front ends to match with it to your liking, but once you have achieved that, no planar magnetic headphones, HE1000 included, can even come close to it.

Nothing wrong with being skeptical. It's actually a good thing in this hobby.

I'm currently enjoying my HE-6. HE-560 before it. To me it's obvious what HE-6 can do that HE-560 is not. But to some people the 2 headphones may just be 2 different flavors. It took me several trips to an audio shop comparing HE-6 and HE-560 before I convinced myself of getting HE-6. The same shop will have HE-1K soon. But I'm not in a hurry and I'm also not convince that it will blow me away compared to HE-6. But will definitely try it when it's available.

Can't compare it to the HE-6, have both the 560 and the beta HEk...really like/liked my 560, now it sounds muddy after getting the HEk, hardly ever put it on (do find it more comfortable than the HEk, ymmv of course).

Probably the HEK doesn't sound any better than the 560, must be all in my head (it is, between my ears, hahahahahaha :D ). They aren't even close. And, I loved my 560's. Whether it is worth 3 times the price is a judgment call...

I'll do a comparison again when I get home, but it didn't even seem close in my quick listen...the only thing keeping me from doing it is, I CAN'T take the MicroZOTL/HEK combo (fed by the Pono) OFF (except to fall asleep with the acs Encores or the VE Zen)

This is true. I am finding out the same thing here. The sr009 is capable of being a bass monster too if u r driving them with a capable amplifier here. However, the he1000 does make some noise out of a portable amps or daps while the sr009 can not.

LOL, so true. I really like the HE-560, but compared to HEK, the 560 sounds compressed and veiled.
