Why is the surface of the diaphragm made/coated with gold?

I looked around but could find no explanation?

because fang is a gaudy chinese millionaire and aspires to being a gaudy chinese billionaire

Probably not the reason. I expect that it either has something to do with the electrical properties of the diaphragm or how sound waves travel over the surface, but I don't know

I remember reading that Fang Bian stated the reason for using gold being that you can make a gold layer extremely thin (and even). Gold is a heavy material and not a very magnetic, but the thin layer apparently was the best option at that time. The nano-technology used in the HE-1000 and later models changed that.

By the looks of it the Edition 6/Susvara and Shangri-La use the same gold diaphragm?

Not likely at all since Fang Bian has develped these long after this degree in nano technology. Gold may be used anyway though.

i bought hifiman 560 and i really like but i changed the pads and added doggie treats from mrspeakers that tame a bit the highs

i like the 560 alot now, this leads to ask for a totl hifiman that has

1- more punchy bass
2- wider sound stage
3- less bright
4- more full sounding and layered

i was wondering if HE-6 is the answer

also is there any portable amp that really can drive th HE-6 with authority, I have alo mk3-B amp which drives 560 really good

I have not had the HE-6 and HE-560 at the same time and did not listen long to the HE-560 but HE-6 is certainly on the bright side and probably more so than HE-560.

As to driving HE-6 properly from a portable amp I don't think so. I had the SR-71B and it couldn't in balanced mode. Yes it was clearly listenable but far from optimal.

I have own them both at the same time. The HE6 is the more refined, dynamic and technical headphone. Stock the HE6 is on the bright and aggressive side, compared to HE560, but with some mods the HE6 sounds really good and much more balanced.

1- more punchy bass - Yes

2- wider sound stage - No

3- less bright – No

4- more full sounding and layered – More sub bass – yes, fuller mids – no, better layering – yes

IMO

Hi folks, new HE-6 owner here. I've had the HE-6 for some time now, but this is my first time posting on the subject.

Today I've hacked the TRS-XLR into a speaker output adapter, desoldering the TRS-connector and putting hollow beryllium copper banana plugs in its place. Gonna listen to some nice amps tonight :)
