HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone

That is an old post you are quoting there. I have dropped all SS headphone amps - no longer use them.

I use a custom 300B headamp to drive a Utopia or HE6, and my power amp to drive my HE6. If you have a nice power amp or integrated speaker amp with a spare set of speaker taps, then that is what I would use for the HE6.

Details of my setup are in my sig. I would not recommend either V281 or 430HA to drive the HE6. A speaker amp is what I would recommend.

Thank youbfor clarifying

I'll probably stick with my Bryston monoblocks for the time being

Hi guys,
I'm going to test my he6 with an speaker amp that uses Hypex ncore modules. It can push 250W in 8 ohm.
Anyone has tested a similar amplifier (an amp which uses Hypex module)?

I've heard good things about pairing with the NAD M22 which uses the Hypex Ncore NC400 modules.

Thanks for the info. I've asked my friend, It seems that he has 2 amp in his hand. One of them is using Ucd400 module (250W on 8ohm) and another is using NC500 module (400W on 8ohm). Do you think that I may hurt my he6 by connecting it to an amp that can push 400W in 8ohms?

Does any one know where I can order the plastic rings that are used to anchor the earpads to the HE-6?

Hifiman does not sell them.

Unless you want to do a lot pad-rolling, I strongly recommend cutting some loops of double-sided tape and fixing the pads directly to the cups.  I really enjoyed this with my HE-6, and now also with my HE-400i.

Buy the old type velour pads. They are 10$, so not too bad if you need them. I expect you want to use the rings for Brainwavz HM5 pads...

Correct- I want to use them for the HM5 pads.

I am not sure the $10 pads or any of the hifi-man pads come with the rings.  There is no indication on the Hifi-man website that they are included.

I was very interested in the NC400's too. Never had the chance to listen them but I did get a chance to try another high quality D-class amp. NewClassD pre and poweramps. It was very bad. It sounded so lifeless and cold.

UcD modules are quite old nowadays, having been originally designed by Bruno Putzeys back in the... I want to say late 90's/early 2000's? (don't quote me on that). The Ncore modules are the latest from him and in terms of measurements a marked improvement.

In the world of class D, there are actually very very few companies out there who produce their "own" amps as it were. Almost all of them drop in turn-key solutions (the B&O Icepower modules being the most ubiquitous). Even many places that sell their own modules are often just chips from TI or wherever done up in a package. This is usually the reason for the poor acceptance of class-D, as most are drop-in puzzle pieces in a fancy case.

These have the rings you need (unless they have changed them, but I don't think so) :

I know. I got excited when I saw it but noticed it was local pickup only...

Right? Maybe he could be convinced to ship it?? It wouldn't be cheap, but still a lot cheaper than any other one I've seen.
