Hell if I know.  I've always just used the EQ on my iTunes for real simple EQ.  If the headphone needed substantial EQ then I got a new headphone.

So far I don't need to use EQ with 560 (focus-a pads).

You mean all of your comments on EQ, 4khz peaks, aren't based on something you actually tried?

Boirefish, very nicely put - what a great way describing the two hp's with a family timeline analogy!

The more I go back and forth between the 2.2 & 560, I consistently wished for the 2.2 to have more of the upper midrange and air as in the 560.  With the 560, to complete the package with my ears, I only wish that it has more of that syrupy lower midrange, larger dimenionality of perceived image (fuller with more "meat"), and perhaps a touch more subbass from the 2.2.  If these two can merge into a sort of hybrid, that would make my day!

Definitely would like to see a audeze/HFM hybrid. On the glass half full side, I can justify keeping both for now since they're both so unique.

Now I get why it is so damn heavy...

Yep! Despite all their accomplishments, these men have nowhere near the level of enthusiasm and aspiration as their younger selves. They sometimes go off on tangents and have put on a significant amount of weight since the glorious box smashing years.

EQ'ing was one of the first things I tried when I first got the preorder 560s a couple months back.  I didn't need to use it though.  There was no treble spike or lack of bass extension to solve, and the midrange wasn't too forward nor too recessed.

The graphs I posted were theoretically what to aim for when taking into account an ideal headphone frequency response-- ie flat to 1khz and then tapering down to -10db at 10khz.

Yep, they changed their warranty.  My original HE-500 was purchased used from a Head-Fier (2nd owner), and its manual/pamphlet says three years.  So it goes.

Since you have both, if you had to choose one or the other, which would you choose?  The weight alone makes the HE-560 very tempting.
I like the comfort and sound of the 560 so I am keeping them I am going to sell my 500s

Jerg has just added and excellent  review ( comparison between 560-500 ) on the first page by Justin_Time . Spot on !

Thanks for sharing the review. The first impressions I have agreed woth 100%. I still own the HE-500 and the HE-560 is fantastic but I can't get rid of the 500 yet. I would miss the addictive and up-front midrange and impactful bass. It's a fun headphone for sure. The new pads also help with comfort, my only real complaint regarding the HE-500.
