Honestly if the 400i has anything to do with the old 400 I will want nothing to do with it.

Well their signature is not for everyone. I'm just hoping it retains the bass, maybe with a tad more extension, and smooths out the top end (upper mids and treble), while keeping the somewhat dark presentation. That, with the increased comfort, lighter weight, improved cable, pads etc would make it end game for me.

Nothing to do with the 400? The bass is pretty well known to be one of the best renditionsof bass out there. HFM can surely use that as a starting point and tweak the mids and highs from there. The 400i is gonna be cheaper for a reason, and I hope it's because it's going to be warm, more forgiving, with the 400 bass, with less treble and more mids.

im hoping it's just another 500 but lighter and more comfy. if it keeps the speed and resolution of the 400 but just gets more linear then it sounds like all you'd have to do is add some air and you've got a 560.

This is what I'm hoping for. You can add pairing and sounding great with an inexpensive amp like the Vali to my wish list.

The would cups add a very nice quality feel. The weight on the head is minimal now and the comfort is great as the band across the top of the head distributes what weight there is in a very equal manner. Great that it is so each to change out cable as well, as usual.

are the headphone interconnects the same as those on the HE500? Basically, can 3rd party cables designed for the HE500 be used on the HE560?

Yes indeed

People love to rat on the HE-400 these days even though it was highly praised upon release.  Coming back from the LCD-XC, I'm not missing anything on the HE-400 when EQ'd.  Ok I lied, I do miss the luxurious leather pads and wood cups, but that's it.  To think that something that's 300 dollars can sound close to something that's 1800 dollars.

The HE400 is one of those headphones that, while flawed, have always sounded special to me. Really, all thats needed is a treble reduction and mid bump, and I'd be absolutely sold. Less weight and better pads are a very nice bonus.

I agree with the xc comparison. I said it a couple months ago when I'd heard them. I respect the 400, I just can't listen to it. And I'm not on the eq'ing boat.

While the 560 is an impressive hp in it's own right, if the 400i delivers what I expect it could be insanely popular.

Of course that depends on one's sonic taste.
We should put them on equal grounds in their best headphones around $500 and $900. They are not competitors but companions :]

I never even knew EQ'ing had a boat.  It's not like cables or burn-in where you either believe it or you don't.  EQ'ing helps tune the headphone to how you want it with little to no sonic degradation  Only good comes out of it.

I'd just like someone to give me a reason to purchase the HE-560, that it will sound twice as good as the HE-4?
it is about twice as light?
You can listen twice as long?
:p ha

he 560 weight is 13.7 ounces. The lightest ortho currently in production. The 560 continues to impress and will start writing the review this week and submit it for publication and keep everyone posted.
wow I can't wait for your impressions.
