Nice ! :)

your setup is very similar to mine, I have a IFI Black label ordered, but currently I use the original IFI imicro IDSD (the silver one) - I also have the Audiogd NFB but the 28.28, not .38, and the 560's / LCD - X sound good with it. Due to space issues my NFB 28.28 is in the storage :) but be careful with the Volume knob on that thing..it doesn't just go to 11...it goes to 15!!!! :D

Wow! That is similar. It's good to have some validation of my endgame set-up. Now the question is what to buy first...

absolutely! I bought the IFI first - I needed something that would be powerful, and portable! However my IFI unit has an issue with channel imbalance with sensitive headphones. You will not notice it if you drive the HE-560, but you will notice it if you use IEM;s or the LCD - X. My unit has had this issue from the factory. I decided not to return it since I dont have any IEM's :) but that is one thing to consider. On the other hand the 28.28 is a tank....super soild, and no issues that I have encountered with it

Kind of what I'd figured. Guess I'll save up for a few more weeks to get the extra funds for the HE560 and then go nuts.

You'll really be happy with the 560's their sq is so nice make sure you don't miss this sale at 499. these hp's simply can't be beat at that price..enjoy

I have the Black Label already, and I love it! I haven't experienced any channel imbalance issues, even with my 846's. And even though it's not my best amp or DAC, it's gets more play-time than anything. It just does everything! Unfortunately, I don't think it has the detail on the very high and very low end as my other amps do and that detailed extension is something I'm going to want for the 560's.

At 499$ nothing comes close to the he560....absolutely nothing :) - master of none but the jack of all trades

When I got my first set they were only $100/pair back in early 2014 and the next two sets were $140/pair so I got a really good deal on them back then. If I were starting now I'd never pay the prices they go for these days.

Jack of all trades is a good way to describe the HE560. I haven't heard the NFB 28 but did get to hear the HE560 with the Master11 and it was really nice, solid bass and very smooth highs but on a liquid glass it was just sublime.

$499 is an awesome deal, paid $799 2 years ago. Got a pair of HD700 open box, (looked brand new) for $330 which is an awesome deal in itself. The HE560 is a lot more comfy than my HE500`s. The HD700 is the most comfortable cans I ever used.

My old GF paid $635 (IIRC) back in 2014 for my HE560. Agree that the HD700 is one of the most comfortable headphones that I have also.

NOTE: My last post informally comparing the HE-560 (V1) and the Mikros 90 has been moved to the Martin Logan Mikros 90 Thread:

https://www.head-fi.org/threads/martin-logan-mikros-90-on-ear-headphones.633514/page-434

Post Script:
Have reintroduced tubes (1x Tung-Sol 6SN7GTB and 2x Mil-Spec Russian Analogue 6H8C). IMHO, the HE-560 definitely benefit from tubes. Am running the Fitz-improved Bada PH-12 hybrid amp again (6SN7 tubes and Toshiba MosFets). Crossfeed is turned to its lowest setting.

Might be the different front end this time around or maybe in my head, but for whatever reason, the Bada is certainly up to the task, with volume knob dialed up to about 65%. The tone and dynamics are nicely filled in with the tubes, injecting a sense of fullness that seemed lacking with the all SS Lehmann. The space seems better integrated as well, with better suffusion of timbres and tone while keeping performers anchored in their respective places on the sound stage. That sense of cold of tonal isolation is agreeably ameliorated. Listening to Kraftwerk re-masters. Revisiting the Thelonius Monk Quartet cuts and the cymbals sound a lot more natural and alive to my ears. "Waiting for You" from Lee Ritenour's Festival is done very, very well by the HE-560.

The downside to using the Bada is that it gets quite warm and must be cooled. I usually use a 6" Lasko "whisper quiet" desk fan (which is 150 miles away at the moment), but right now it's a Pelonis 16" standing floor fan!

The SinglePower MPX3 is on deck.

Wow, the HE560 is literally unbeatable at the $499. Any choice of planners better than the HE560 may only be the Ether Flow, LCD 4 or HE1000, and they are all nothing close to the $499 point.

Amusingly, my HE-560s are BY FAR the least expensive part of my system (EVS modded Sonica DAC ==> Violectric v280 ==> HE-560) and I LOVE them. Just got the amp and the modded Sonica showed up yesterday. Took my 560s to a new level. Bass is visceral, yet without bloat. Lows, Mids, Highs, all there in balance. I shudder to think what I'd have to spend for a significant upgrade. $499 is a true bargain. I'm almost tempted to purchase a second set to have a modded and an un-modded version for comparison-- almost. :)

Since that price is showing up everywhere, it's starting to feel like a 'close-out'. Suppose there is a successor in the works?

I also assume there maybe a new model coming in the near future, IMO Hifiman updates their product line quite rapidly. However, I dont think the successor of the HE560 can beat the $499 price point, as we all know sound quality do not scale that good with the MSRP for TOTL products. Even if Hifiman pulls off some kind of magic that makes the successor an extreme bargain. For the marketing department for audio products, if the sound quality is up there, it is very unlikely to have a relatively low MSRP.

Man, for $500 this is a tempting deal. However, I already have the HE-400i. Is the HE-560 enough of an improvement to justify the purchase or is any improvement in the sound merely incremental?
