My NAD C326BEE headphone output drives my HE500's very nicely.

I was talking about driving the HE-6 off speaker taps in the post you quoted. Apologies for the minor thread derailment.

Hi everyone, I need some help in getting another amp for the he500

I used to drive it, along with my magnum v4, with a beta22 (3 channel), unfortunately, someone wrecked my amp in a meet and its rendered irreparable at this point. I want to get an amp or a DAC/amp combo in the $700 range and saw a mytek 192 DSD DAC for sale for that price. I know that is a great DAC but I already have a moon audio 300d so I'm it really looking for another DAC, what interests me is the amp section. The specs said it has a high current 500 ma headphone output, but didn't indicate the impedance. So I'm not sure if it can drive the he500.

I still want a headphone amp that can drive the magnum 4s, I have an sr200 coming and my dream is to get the he6 as well, so I want a powerful amp but also one that can handle all these headphones. That said, my primary is the he500.

Anybody have any experience with the mytek he500 pairing? Otherwise, any recommendations for what I'm looking for? Thanks.

Massdrop is going to have a drop for the HE-350 for $99. It could be good as parts for HE-500/HE-6 owners who would like the HE-560 headband and removable cables, if it doesn't sound good.

I would say go for a FirstWatt speaker amp on the used market, but you'd still be looking at $1K+.

Lyr 2 can power just about anything and so can Audio-GD stuff.

Sweet. Thanks for that. Now it's amp hinting time.

As for the he350. That thing sounds like a bargain if it's anywhere even close to the he300

Have a look at some of the Audio-gd range. I use mine with an SA-31 (upgraded to SE specification).

I use a Lyr with the HE-500 and it's a great pairing.

Anyone in this thread who owns both HE-500 and HE-560 and prefers HE-500. I have both and I am definitely using mu HE-500 more. It has this smooth, rich, full-bodied and addictive sound. It is really perfect as a allround headphone.

The 560 scales higher IMHO, I really didn't appreciate it until I tried it on my HE-6 rig.

My HE-560 is on the way, so I will report with my findings.

Between the HE-500, HE-560, and LCD-2.2, one of them may end up going.

Ok. I sometimes drive my HE-560 and my HE-500 from the loudspeaker taps of my amplifier so they definitely get enough power. The difference is not that large compared to driving them through my MF X-Can (1 Watt into 32 Ohm). The sound signature of the HE-560 doesn't change significantly anyway.

The 560 is technically superior, but I enjoy the 500 more.

I find it to be more forgiving and versatile.  Listening to Nirvana with the 560 made me very sad.

The 560 does sound fantastic with the right music...jazz, especially.

I definitely agree about Nirvana and jazz but I don't really understand why you call HE560 "technically superior". What do you actually mean by that?

Better detail retrieval/clarity.

The 500 is a little soft in comparison with boomier bass.

But softer/boomier doesn't automatically equal less enjoyable, so I don't intend that as a criticism.
