Can anyone confirm that these hifiman velour pads have the right size mounting ring for the HE-400i?  I'm planning to replace the stock pads with the angled pleather HM-5s but need the correct mounting ring.

Yes ,,  mounting ring is working with the HE400i perfectly.

Thanks for the swift replies, everyone. I placed an order for three sets since I'll need one each for the HE-400i and the HE-350 and added another to get to free shipping (and in case I destroy any rings during installation).

I did same ordered an extra set but it's so easy you won't believe it try not to use that much glue if you are or don't use any at all

I've decided to keep the 400i. It really took some time to get used to the sound, was not really impressed at all at first. Have been using them for 2 weeks now and they have really grown on me so I will keep using them, just not this pair

Shared the similar experience, the treble attack among the other properties I mentioned somehow addicts you, the 400i is a rather exciting 'phone. Had to EQ the treble peak down to get it right for me.

Recently got the HE-400i (5 days ago)!. Was reading this thread like for a month. Love the looks! Do not know what to think about the sound yet. From the first listen I had the feeling that something important is missing in the sound. Will update my impressions soon.

Yeah, I'm looking for a headphone with smoother treble and more forward vocals than the HE-400i, and the HD 650 seems to be that headphone from what I've read so far.

Source/amping plays a key role in HD650 sounding good, thought about that?
