Hello everyone! I haven't found a clear-cut answer to this so I thought I'd just ask it. Right now, I have a Galaxy S Voodoo + FiiO E11, is this setup good enough for the HE-400? If things work out, I'll barely have enough money to purchase these, so I won't be able to buy a new amp or DAC. I would like to know if my setup will allow me to get a good enough quality to enjoy these headphones, or would a different set be preferable (by good enough at least like 85% of the potential)? Thanks!

Which model will be best for metal? 400 or 500?
I have O2+ODAC amp

The 400 is great with just about any genre. Metal sounds phenomenal. From what I've read the 500 is more detailed but with slightly less bass, so it depends on personal preference and whether you want to spend the extra cash. For $400 the HE-400 is a great deal, I'm very pleased.

I spent 30 minutes this morning wiping all the lint and dust that's gathered on my pair, they look as good as new now

I read this thread obsessively, every single day, several times a day. I want these so bad, I just need to sell my UE 900 before I can get them. Auuuuugh. At this rate, I'll be buying the Magni + Modi before I even get the HE-400

While I haven't heard the HE-500 I can say that HE-400 sounds wonderful with it (I listen to loads of metal), and your O-combo will drive them. Any special metal bands you have in mind, I might be able to comment further?

what's your current source/amp?

It doesn't take much to drive the HE-400.

I have a Fiio E17 and a Little Dot MKIII amp with a Muse DA20 DAC. I have enough to power it, but I want the M&M, and even if I didn't get them, that's only $200 out of the $400 I need for the HE-400. I hope to get $350 out of the UE-900 to get me most of the way there.

Why would you want the M&M if you already have a nice set-up?
