**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Had them both side by side for a month.  HE-400 for me was the clear winner mostly due to the bass.

Hmmm...will be interested in doing the side-by-side comparison.  Whichever loses out I'll be putting up for sale.  How's the soundstage?  The HE-400 are great for music, but not awesome for gaming (compared to DT-990, which are my go-to gaming headphones).

I have the "remove grill and all innards" mod and think the soundstage is excellent.  I don't game so can't comment there.

You need a new headband from HFM. Not an easy fix the way the old band was made.

I miss my HE-400 and wish these were still sold new somewhere. I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

New member of team OG HE-400 here. Got some velour pads as well as the stock pleathers, but haven't even gotten around to trying them with the velours yet.
I've been enjoying it out of my Project Polaris (mellow bandwidth) on low resistance, which  means I'm getting about 2W output.
When using on higher resistance I had to turn the volume very high to get adequate volume level, so these cans are definitely juice hogs :)
I hope I can give them an amp that'll be able to push above 2.5w into these bad boys.
I'm really loving the sub bass response on these.

They have nearly electrostatic levels of clarity. I often find myself rewinding to hear if my headphones are messed up or I'm hearing imperfections in the recordings I never noticed before.

Reading thru the thread, but is anyone swapping earpads on these with non Hifiman pads?

These headphones certainly do not disappoint. Now that I own these, I am incredibly curious to buy an amp with hardware bass boost to see how far I can push these.

The Audeze Vegan pads would be great but... $80 for pads? god damn...

P.S. do the cardas cables make a difference?

I'm running Audeze Vegan pads on my HE-400 and tried their lambskin version as well.  Found them for sale (new) for $50 on the for sale board.............come up for sale pretty regularly and to me it's worth even the $80.
