I was going to sell my 400's.The treble spike was driving me crazy really irking me. As I was reading through this thread someone suggested using 5 pieces of toilet paper by putting them over the cup. It was the answer. They now sound phenomenal. Who would ever think crap paper could be used in such way!

Can you clarify "over the cup?" The treble not too bad with my pair except with certain artists/songs, but it may improve the overall sound signature towards my preference as well.

I wonder if you could remove the pads, insert the paper, then install the pads. I will give it a try.

Yes, you can. You can also use shelf-liner to take the bite off the treble installed under the pad.

I want to use the 400's for gaming, but I find the cable to be thick, bulky and not suitable for gaming, Can you recommend a good, thin and cheap cable for them ?

Plenty of choices.

Bestintheverse.com
Forza audio
Btg-audio or q-audio
Plussoundaudio

I have cables from all of the above vendors and they are all reputable and of high quality.

Here's an honest question, how does cable thickness affect gaming? I game with my 400 too, and I'm wondering if I'm missing out on anything. Sure, a lighter cable is nice, but I don't think there's enough head movement during gaming to necessitate a thin cable?

Probably wants a thin cable to help with the weight; for some that can make a difference.

Plus with custom cables you can get them made shorter so you don't have to deal with too much excess bound cabling.

True. Fortunately I'm fine with the weight, although I do have the wire going down the table edge, and then up between my legs lol. Thanks.

So tempted to jump on the HE-400i for the Black Friday pricing, but it would mean giving up the HE-400.  Thoughts from those of you who have heard both?

The HE400i is to my ears the better headphone. I have the HE-400 and HE-560 and on a recent meet spend some time with the HE-400i and HE-400s - to be honest - I was most surprised by the HE-400s - I think it's a huge bargain for the price and can be driven so easily. Amazing. But getting the 400i of rate same price, I would say: go for it, thought about it myself but then - too much stuff going on.

Cheers,
K

Thanks, ended up biting on them.  Hopefully the comfort alone will be worth the step up...

Had them both side by side for a month.  HE-400 for me was the clear winner mostly due to the bass.
