**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

I think I remember someone made a wishlist of improvements for the next Hifiman headphone. It raised some interesting points. I'll see if I can find it

edit:

Wayne...I'm in for a slightly reworked he400. On my wish list:

1. Better stock pads-j$/jergpad type

2. No treble spike-kill the tizz

3. Smooth the mids

4.NOT any heavier

5. Not any more expensive

6. Retain the bass

7. Softer more flexible cable

8. Get rid of the cup connectors completely and replace with mini xlr connectors.

These are tips for an improved HE-400, but many of the points should apply for a new flagship too.

Please remember how quickly HFM retired the he-4. The he400 could go down the same road as could the he500 and receive a new model in it's place. Stranger things have happened.

Eh I feel Hifiman back in the days of HE4 was quite different from how they are now. Back then they still had some identity problems with regards to their lineup.

Detail is a sought out quality, if an engineer or artist left it in I'd like to hear it.

Happens on a few tracks one in particular is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpluTn_bPXI there's some background noise on the lead guitar that I can hear with the HE400s quite clearly but only slightly with the T50RPs... Can you hear it?

Seems like the HE400 hype is slowly being replaced by the HE500.

The HE400 is great, but it does have some flaws (the treble D:), but I think earpads and a bit of equalizing really helps the headphone.
In retrospect it might have been wiser of me to save money for an extra month and buy the HE500 instead.

But HE-500 isn't able to replace HE-400 in terms of airyness and liveliness. I stick to HE-400 and don't even look at HE-500 (especially that I have LCD-2.2:))

Yeah ok, it's awesome for the price, but the cons of the HE400 outweigh that of the HE500.

However, those cons are relatively easy mediated with the HE400.
