Pretty sure REV 3/4 are pretty non sibilant(on most recordings)

Is there any way to determine which revision I have because I haven't found my HE-400 sibilant pretty much at all.
They're actually most easy sounding phones I have listened to and I can listen them with higher volumes than any other phones.

Best pads for comfort that I tried are SHR-1840 pads, had a spare set that came with the SRH-1840,
very comfortable but because it brought the driver closer to my ears the highs got a little harsh.

I use SRH-1440 pads which are presumably identical, and they are definitely very comfortable.
I didn't notice any harshness is highs but I still did raise pads a bit with foam to keep soundstage wide.
You could try same method if that would help with your highs.

If anyone is interested, I am selling my HE400's here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/804789/selling-hifiman-he400-headphones-w-focuspads

I'm willing to negotiate price on these - they also now come with a custom cable made by fallen angel ($100 value included at no additional cost) . Please send PM if interested.

Just haven't been using mine as much anymore!

Are those Focus Pads? I've been trying to ask if they improve the sound, but no one really responded.

The velour pads are a must. They have a significant improvement in the overall sound especially the bass and are much more comfortable. I still have the stock leather pads and have never even thought about putting them back on. BTW I still own the AKG K702's and the HE-400's smoke them in every way.

Avoid using EQ's or any other enhancement with the exception of crossfeed. I have a HeadRoom Micro Amp and the crossfeed sounds fantastic. For classical or tracks that have only guitar and vocals or any other types of music you can switch it off. In fact the first thing I do is turn the crossfeed on an off and decide which sounds better.

Actually try the Vegan pads from Audeze.

The focus pads make these headphones keepable. I couldn't stand the sound out of the box. There was some kind of cavity resonance with the reflective leather surface that caused tremendous coloration of the mids. The focus pads turned me into a 400 fan overnight and they went from ready to return, to one of my all time top 3.

Curious! Thanks a lot for the replies. I use the stock leather and somewhat suffer from the frequency response spike at exactly 1 kHz, and was wondering if Focus Pads might address that.
