For Neutron, what are your recommended settings?
literally the bit-perfect settings, so no upsampling, dsd with no conversion, 64 bit, no replay gain

Apologies if these are stupid questions, I'm just trying to get Neutron dialed in and I've not used it that much before.

Hardware Volume enabled?
Subsonic and ultra sonic filters off?
Why 64bit if no processing is enabled?
Why is Neutron indicating 32bit output when the DAC is only 24bit? Does this indicate that I have something set wrong?

Thanks for the assist getting setup correctly with Neutron on RS8.

Enable Hardware volume as you want to use the dap volume knob. In the case of DAPS with analog pot, it makes a difference, digital not as much.
Disable subtonic and ultra off, you only use this when you want to downsample from a hires file.
Enable 64bit processing (and audiophile setting) if you want to use any dsp or resembling.
The 32 bit is the OS Andriod, the actual file is untouched, you have done nothing wrong.

I got to try the RS8 last night. I enjoyed it more than the N8ii that I tried immediately after. But at the end of the testing session, after describing to the shop keeper that I thought it was lacking in bass, he checked the player and said that the Turbo was not selected. What will change in Turbo mode?

I listen without turbo mode. There's no lack of bass.

Turbo increases amp voltage supply from default ±6V to ±7.5V.

I leave Turbo on and primarily use Class A amp for added fullness and smoothness. Signature differences between Class A and AB are subtle and dependent on IEM/headphone you're using.

How warmed up was it? I don't get THE BASS till it's good and warm. ~30 mins playtime or 6-10% battery drop.

Thanks for all of the responses to my question. I was testing out a few DAPs last night. My first time sitting and testing for hours since I bought the N6ii many years ago. I listed to the RS8 for quite a bit of time and went back to it after listening to the N8ii. I did prefer the RS8 over the N8ii. After the listening to the RS8 I listened to the WM1Z M2 and a few other DAPs too. I even listened to the RS6 and I think it is an amazing value for the sound you get out of that.

I'll try to get another listen of the RS8 set in Turbo mode and see what I hear.

I am not sure if anyone was playing it before I did but I did listen to it for about 45 minutes, went immediately to the N8ii for about 30 minutes and then back to the RS8 for another 30 minutes or so before switching to the WM1ZM2. And then towards the end of the 3 hours, I think I went back to the RS8 again for a little bit more time.

For me this applies to just about anything that has an R2R ladder DAC inside ... Takes a good half hour before my Meze Elite stop sounding anemic, both on my RS6 and my RS8 :)

Hi @Joe Bloggs

I have recently rediscovered your crossfeed convo filter. It’s giving this nice 3d effect to my music which has many melodic layers, or in other words I can hear the melodies traveling within the stage at the expense of slight loss of detail. I also have your 3d convo, but it doesn’t quite does it like the crossfeed. Crossfeed gives the impression that I’m in the middle of the action, 3d feels like things are happenning at a distance from me.

I was wondering if you have any advice, or a convo filter to make this crossfeed effect even more pronounced.

Can you directly link us to the two different versions so I am sure which two we are talking about? 👍🏻
