Hiby R6 Pro - serious upgrade to popular DAP
Feb 3, 2021 at 6:22 AM Post #3,751 of 4,006
A recent update to the Amazon HD app seems to have made it better at detecting device capabilities. For example, on my Pixel4 XL it shows "24-bit / 48 KHz" as normal when playing through the speaker, but as soon as I connect my BW PX7's to bluetooth that changes to "24-bit / 96 KHz" and when plugging in a USB-C DAC it changes to "24-bit 192 KHz".

I wonder if that means the Hiby workaround is no longer needed? My only gripe with that is that I can't use the Convolution plugin as all tracks show as 192 KHz in the status bar and it causes pretty bad skipping of the audio when unticking "other sample rate bypass" on the plugin settings, even for 44.1 KHz amazon tracks (does this mean the R6 pro is actually upsampling the amazon tracks?)

Convolution only works for 44.1 files IIRC. @Joe Bloggs

Yes, which most of the Amazon HD tracks are but regardless of the track quality in Amazon, you see 192K in the status bar and convolution doesn't work

was it not skipping with convolution on before the update? Note that correction files downloaded from autoEQ need to be edited to have a few samples of leading silence to avoid glitching on the HiBy convolver.

Convolution has always had issues with Amazon HD tracks. I'm using the moondrop blessing 2 file from AutoEQ with 00.002seconds of silence at the front. Works fine when playing files with UAPP, but all Amazon HD tracks have glitching (16-bit 44.1Khz or otherwise)

I got that. I expected that I would do that install and then report whether my update button deactivated. But instead, the update broke HibyMusic. With that version installed (1.5.2) HibyMusic won’t even run — error message says it started and then immediately stops again, grrrh!
I was told that this kind problem would sort itself after a restart of the player (and be sorted for good until at least the next update). Have you tried that?

Yes it does.

Does this work with streaming apps? i.e, if i have a track streaming from my phone connected via bluetooth to the r6 as a receiver? much like the ES100 or BTR5 would? thanks

I just tried it... Yes, you can stream from your phone to the R6 Pro. I was able to get SBC, AAC, UAT and LDAC codecs to all connect and play.

Thanks. Can I assume any Hiby android player, like the R5, can do this? Or is that not the case.
Yes the R5 can do this too

Whenever I travel and don't have access to WiFi, I can't play any of the Tidal songs I've downloaded to the SD card. I get an "Offline Page could not be found" even though I can see the album artwork in my "downloaded" queue. Is this a Hiby R6 Pro glitch or a Tidal glitch. I may have to get a new DAP, as I have a desktop rig at home and really need a DAP to be able to store music on the go and not have to stream. This is very frustrating. Is the r6 2020 better?

The icons appear immediately in your "downloaded" list even if they haven't actually been downloaded. While you're online, after you've selected something to be downloaded, you should see "Downloading x items" at the top of your Downloaded page, with a spinning circle. As long as that is still spinning and appearing, not all of your music has been downloaded. Perhaps that explains your problem?
