Hiby R6 Pro II (2023 Edition) - Launch, Hype, Thoughts & More

Just like to thank everyone who has given their thoughts as to the pro II vs r6 iii decision. I’m not very good at spending money so either is a big choice for me.

The r6iii at least in the Black Friday prices represents great value, the form factor is appealing, the volume dial is a nice touch and the better battery is a definite bonus as I use streaming probably 60% of the time. From what I’ve read the performance is great too and will no doubt be a fun listening experience. The pro II on the other hand is a bit bigger, battery isn’t so great and it runs warmer, although that could vary unit to unit.

That said, one standout theme has been clear to me from every comment and every review I’ve read. The R6 iii is good, the pro II is better, defies its price range better… some reviewers even suggesting it can compete, at least on sound quality, with DAP’s 4-5 times its price point.

So, this being head-fi, I’ve ordered a pro II. Can’t wait. I’ll no doubt have buyers remorse initially, it’s a lot of money, but hopefully the step up from my little A105 will make it short lasted.

Ordered a balanced cable for my IEM’s too. And a 512gb SD…

either is a good buy. just be ready for some frustration on the useability of the pro II case which gets you to press the buttons accidentally. one "fix" i have is the option to disable buttons on a side when the screen is off. this makes you not accidentally change tracks when you just wanna adjust volume.

enjoy.

Or remove the plastic tabs in the case...

Just going through initial setup, impressed by how responsive this thing is. One question, can I lose the purple icon set and use the stock android icon set and theme colours? Asking as an iOS user!

I have been looking at getting either the R6 Pro II or the M11 Plus ESS, and now the R8 II is around the corner. The main concern I have with R6 Pro II is the battery, lasting 5 hours in some cases is kinda a turn off for me, but the M11 Plus not sure how good that still is in 2023...

you can also download a 3rd party launcher. i personally use Nova Launcher on my R6 Pro. As it is running android you can run a 3rd party launcher.

Streaming Apple Music + High Gain 4.4mm + Class AB I get around 8 hours.
Those 5 hours you are referring to could be Class A. At least to my ears A/AB makes hardly an audible difference.

That said, I am interested in the R8 II and might even get one. It’s a big heavy brick though, not portable.

Hello - new owner of the R6 Pro II here, im trying to download version 1.20_20230606-1002 and continue to receive an error message. Can anyone provide a link to download the software online instead of OTA? Apologies if this was already discussed previously.

Hi, has anyone experienced the player suddenly said it is overheating and it needs to shut down and it doesn an automatic shutdown?

This happened to me today as I was using it with 3.5mm line out mode to amp speakers, using Neutron player and I was fiddling with some settings, I had it plugged into an 10w usb charger which never happened before, and this happened when I was changing an EQ setting in Neutron so I I could read this warning message before it did an automatic shutdown. The player wasn't like if I use class A mode 4.4mm PO that kind of actually hot but it was just warm, and I had only been playing for maybe 2 hours....

I did some further check with a phone temp checker and I noticed the battery temperature when I plug in the charger it immediately go from 30degrees to 41 to 44 or even 46.5 degrees Celsius(which the app gives me a warning saying device is getting too hot) with that 10w charger at 900-1600ma, I never noticed this before but do any of you also have these cpu monitor or battery temp checker app and noticed the same thing? I don't know why but I feel that this battery is sensitive to chargers or fast chargers.... I tried with slightly faster charger like 20w and it gets to 50degrees at 3100+mA , is this a problem?

This is the first time it did automatic shutdown on me and I had the same setup before and it never happened, and I am sure I have used the player in class A mode 4.4mm PO which was definitely hot and it didn't go into shutdown...

Were you playing it on line out using class A while also charging it ?
I could imagine the device getting hot in this scenario.

I don’t know what the Tjunction max is on these Snapdragon CPUs but 50C sounds normal on such a high load.
It was probably much hotter when it shutdown.
