HIBY R6 - DAP Dual DAC Balanced Out - Great Reviews and Over 500% Funded @ Indiegogo!
Dec 16, 2017 at 1:28 AM Post #496 of 6,622
Hey there! I've got two questions

1) Will there be taxes if shipped to Portugal from Indiegogo

2) Is there MQA Tidal Masters streaming through UAPP App

1. That depends on what Portugal does with our package from China but we'll do our best to minimize your costs.
2. Not sure what MQA Tidal has to do with UAPP but UAPP can play on our R6 at any sample rate thanks to the Direct Transfer Audio architecture :)

@Joe Bloggs @Hawaiibadboy I just wanted to know does mage 8 ball effect the sound of everything even tidal/Spotify/ and when used as a USB Dac? Also Can provide more info on the soundstage plugin.

Yes, these can take effect when using the R6 as a USB DAC using the HiBy Music app. But currently it is not a system level effect so it doesn't change the sound of Tidal / Spotify / etc. The soundstage plugin... improves soundstage when using headphones :p A third party who has heard this himself, like Hawaiibadboy, may comment. :)

The only issue I have atm is having to wait until March, saving the 120 on IGG is pretty good though, I have an Andromeda as well but I think if the Mage 8 ball works as well as it is reported too I don't mind EQ if I have,

I'm still stuck between this and the Sony NW-ZX300, I do not use tidal and Spotify so getting an Android-based player is not a key thing but the Hiby R6 REALLY HAS MY ATTENTION. I am still at an impasse regarding what I should get, I need to wait at least 2 more weeks before I can take the plunge on either.

Thank you for your attention :D

@Joe Bloggs i understand this may be a moot point at this juncture but did you guys deliberate upon the usage of dual mSD slots? Would that be a possibility in some future development? I do agree that with the advent of 400 gig cards that kind of becomes not an absolute must. However, going by the philosophy of excesses, would dual mSD slots be a possibility in a future model/ iteration?
Also some insight to the choice of the 32 gig ROM would be nice.

Hello superuser1,

If I were the designer for a future model I would personally go for just one full size SD which is more simple and compatible hardware and software-wise... This was nevertheless not possible in the current chassis design for want of board space. The 32G ROM is 32G not larger because internal memory is even more costly than any mSD card--it runs faster than any mSD card and should be reserved for OS and app installations. Expanding it to increase song storage would be a wasteful excess at this price point. For the prices we were quoted it was anyway--I don't know how other manufacturers managed to squeeze 64GB into the budget but had to make to with 2GB RAM. Or a Rockchip for that matter :p

Like the design, thank god no stupid volume knobs, or offset angles here.

Don't like that it's not out till march or potential import fees on top.

Not fussed :- the single sd slot. Got a pioneer xdp 100r and never used the second slot. A 200 gig card holds more than enough for me.

Does R6 have an "exclusive mode" where user can lock out android interface and see only the Hiby playback app? I think iBasso and Fiio have a mode like this but not sure what it's actually called.

Also how is the volume control divided up? I saw Low & High gain option but how many volume steps?

Sorry if this has been answered already, my attempts at search didn't turn up anything.

EQ/DSP stuff looks really cool BTW.

Is there a lock for the hardware buttons in the software? Already pre-ordered, just curious.

No but it would take pretty firm directed pressure to activate the spring loaded buttons which are pretty much flush with the body. It should be easy enough to add a lock function if proven necessary by user feedback.

May I know why is this called : the most advanced music player in the world?
Because of the 3 GB ram and the way the PCB is designed?

A detailed explanation will be nice, thanks:)

Hello musicday,

Partly because of the high hardware specs processing-wise (Snapdragon CPU together with the mentioned 3GB RAM) but mostly because of the Direct Transfer Audio (DTA) architecture which makes more audio apps provide bit perfect output than ever before. Not only the bundled music app or specially designed apps like Neutron, but any old app that just chucks the unaltered audio stream at the Android system expected it to go through a dozen mixing and resampling steps will get a bit perfect direct line to the DAC instead :D

Now if you're not a believer in bit perfect audio, there's also our 8-ball and sound field programs, which go the other way and provide what I believe are the most advanced best sounding DSP software on a DAP as well :L3000:

How many songs can the database store? I have over 16500 tracks and some players cant database that many.

There's no limit to the HiBy Music app's database size, which is at any rate just one out of a thousand music apps you can use on this player :)

1. No but I believe the processing performance of the hardware makes it unnecessary from a performance standpoint while the aforementioned DTA architecture makes it unnecessary from an audio standpoint

2. 101 volume steps (counting mute)

3. Thanks :)

Thanks for the reply. In my case it's an interface concern- for all its utility I find Android disruptive when I'm focused on music listening & browsing, so being able to lock it out is useful feature IMO.

Well er... Tap the HiBy Music app icon and don't tap the home button? I'll raise the concern for future designs...

There is no 2nd mode to assure no re-sampling since it is built around doing that (no resampling). It burns ...blazing fast. I just hit the hiby icon and am on my way :)
