If it were me I wouldn’t plan on the R6 for full size, especially 300ohm ones like ZMF. The power is only 750mw at 32 ohms.

Compare that with iBasso DX300 at 1.24W@32ohms(65% more powerful) or KANN ALPHA at 12Vrms, which imputes 4.5W 32ohms (6x more powerful).

Great. My plan is for using the R6 2020 directly with my IEMs and connected to my Hugo 2 to drive my HD600/650/800S and Verite Closed.

Would love to hear your thoughts and more comparisons to the iDSD post burn in! I'm currently using the OG Micro iDSD and it's slowly dying on me. I'm wondering if DAP sound quality has finally caught up to older gen transportable DAC/Amps, at least for IEMs and more efficient headphones.
Well i will tell you what i think as soon i know for myself 🤘 the player is still in its burn-in faze and i will not touch it until it's well cooked 🍖
I guess another 24 hours will do.
I am no critic like so many here but will try my best.

I'd love to compare it to DX300, it may be a fair competition

I'll be able to provide comparison between R6 2020 and DX300 soon :) sometimes next week
But yeah DX300 is powerful not many things can compete aside from iBasso own DX220 Max and yeah the KANN

I'd have spent up to 30% more if there was something else that I thought was better at this size that could also stream from a server and do Qobuz. I didn't see one, rolled the dice and am happy I did. I'm also kinda done with $1500+ IEMs (I think:rolling_eyes:) so this is a sweet spot for me and, I suspect, many here.

What do you mean, can’t you use Qobuz app with full features on this DAP?

Don't expect it will be as tangible sounding but suspect you'll like it. ESS DACs aren't about note weight but there's enough in the result with uapp.

Yes, low moderate volume out R6 2020 with my easier to drive planar gear is acceptable per review comments on driving cans...never really crank it except on desktop...does anyone use MSEB.....it just puts an instant veil over music whenever I tried it out...not nice.

I wonder, doesn't poweramp do the same thing as uapp?
It does come well reviewed.

I personally feel res on this unit is pretty great and it's far from aggressive or artificially dynamic. That said, I only use IEMs and I'm sure some of the pricier players have a bit more gravitas in their presentation. The mobile ess chips allows this sort of runtime etc with this fully implemented symmetrical configuration.

Earlier ESS DACs have sounded a bit more aggressive in some configurations. I do not hear any of that aggressive nature here as it's quite refined but as I've said, it could be a touch weightier in presentation with Hiby player though very open. Uapp player presents a more solid and grounded take. Between hiby player and uapp I get very smooth and open to more tangible takes on the sound.

That said, none of these players are perfect but I would not be willing to give up the apparent speed or transient quality here for a bit of extra mid color or weight with a rounder presentation at this (any) price point. There are always tradeoffs. Single ended takes so far and I suspect it will pick up some color balanced. Unlike others I don't always prefer balanced configurations but this looks extremely well configured for same. I am anxious to try when I get a proper cable..

Others will have different ideas about this. Viva la difference :relaxed:.

Poweramp doesn't support native Hi-Res drivers and upsamples everything instead.
Thank you for the answer. But doesn't uapp make everything a in app purchase? How much for a fully featured player then?
