i would like to find a pair of headphones that will pump out some good bass without sacrificing sound quality, i have a pair of ath-w1000s (paired with a sugden headmaster and sugden cdmaster), which, sound absolutely fantastic, the headphones just lack that extra thump when playing songs with any sort of heavy bass line, (massive attack's teardrop is one that it really suffers with)

Any Suggestions welcomed, i have a £300 MAX spending limit (that's 480USD)

Digital-Pride,

i have taken a look at the beyerdynamic dt 770 headphones, but there seems to be about a thousand different versions, with various ohms

which version of them would you suggest out of the two below...?

DT770 (80 ohms) if you want closed

DT990 (edition/premium) if you want open

If you want Ultrasone, the HFI 580's bass has more quantity and is better controlled than the HFI 780. The HFI 780 is more treble-wise than bass-wise.

What's PRAT? Anyway overall clarity-wise, the HFI 780 have a slight advantage.

Looks like smomeone needs to brush up on their audiophile terms.  Where you not paying attention during Professor U.E.'s(Uncle Erik) class?

PRaT is short for Pace Rythm and Timing.  This describes a headphone's ability to keep up with all the musical information provided by the source.  A headphone with good PRaT is very engaging, not boring or you could say it makes the music toe tapable.

PRaT seems to be a rather obscure term.  I don't think that a 5000+ head-fier missing that is a sin.  I for one enjoy my Ultrasone HFI-580s.  Compared to my Senn 598 it has tooth rattling bass.  Great for bass heavy music like hip hop or electronica.  The low impedance and closed nature is a plus if you plan on travelling with em.  Clamping is certainly more than my 598s, but it feels perfectly fine after a couple of hours of listening.

On the cheap: V-moda Bass Freq. I own a pair of them, and they have some seriously impressive bass for $20, and after break-in, they sound really good for the price all around.

Mid-priced: the Koss UR40 just sounds gorgeous across the whole spectrum. The bass on them isn't quite boomy, but it's definitely there, and mixes in perfectly with the mids and highs, I loved the pair I had to pieces, but unfortunately they quit on me.

In general: Sony MDR-7506, they have a seriously good rep in the recording industry, and they're basically a relabeled MDR-V6, and they're $100, so they definitely don't break the bank, like a pair of Grados can.

STAY AWAY FROM SKULLCANDY, AT ALL COSTS! And as for Bose, enter at your own risk, because although Bose doesn't have the best headphone rep, I sound-tested a pair of AE2s and liked what I heard. Not too keen on Beats either.
