Hi there,
I currently use a X41 and I am very unsatisfied, I will be selling it to a friend so I will get $200 USD from that.
I don't care about 5.1/wireless and all that useless crap.

it has to be:
3.5mm (absolutely no usb)
Great for Movies
Great for Music
Great for Gaming (have to hear footsteps etc.)
Have audio volume controls on it
Comfortable
Full size
Wired (I HATE WIRELESS!!!1111)
Cannot have fixed mic if it has one (I will be going outside with it)

Amps/soundcards:
good idea? ok with my budget?
only amp i know is the astro mixamp and its TERRIBLE
Asus Xonar?

Open or closed back?
i don't care about noise leak, which is better for music? which is better for gaming?

What controls are there on the zalman clip on mic?
is it good?
will it work with XBOX?
will it work with PS3?
Any other audio mixer/mics out there?
how does it connect and work?

I'm looking at:
Sennheiser: 515, 518, 555, 558, 595, 598
AKG: K Series
Grado: Don't know, heard they are good
Beyerdynamic: Don't know, heard they are good
Audio Technica: Don't know, heard they are good
Steelseries: Don't know, heard they are good
Razer: Carcharias (please not the orca, i hate the in-your-face green)

Stay away from:
Tritton, Astro, Turtle Beach, PC 350/PC 360 (I hate doing mods)

I think u scared a lot of folks off with the volume control.
It is not something u find on the better headphones.
Not sure that any of the ones u list have it, for instance.

I owned the hd595. It would be great for music but just okay for gaming.
The beyer dt880 or dt990 would be my top pick...

ermm turn the t.v down? I use a 6£ pair of stereo headphones from the supermarket and they work fine. I know there not wireless or have a mic, but looking at your list i think you'll struggle to find something affordable. I think the best headphones for gaming are those that actaully lack bass, so perhaps look at something by senheisser?
