So im looking to buy new headphones after my Sony MDR-NC7s broke. I was looking at the sennheiser hd 280 pros and the shure SRH 240 and 440s. Im a bass head, so thats kinda important, but overall sound quality is too, so i dont want to get skullcandies. some one also referred me to the AKG K 518s, but i really prefer circumaural phones, and they need to be sound isolating.

Any suggestions?

If you don't care how they look... I'm pretty sure undisputed champ under $100 has to be the Sony XB500 or XB700 for bass. I've heard the Denon D1100 have pretty big bass too, but they recently just shot up in price by a lot. If you can stretch your budget to around $150 or so, there are many more options and better sound quality along with that big bass.

Go for the Koss Pro DJ 100. I like the styling and the sound. They sound unbelievably good for $80, but you need an amp to go with them. The Fiio E5 will suffice.  They have great bass; the sub bass and bass texture is great and not bloated, the upper mids is a bit forward and the highs are detailed and not fatiguing.

i can vouch for K518 DJ and they are great, good bass that doesnt drown the other frequencys. And they isolate pretty darn good. Also add panasonic RP-HTX7 to your list, they have very good bass, for a very low price.

I got some refurb Sony XB500s for a good price and I still think I paid to much, check out the Superlux headphones, they seem to offer a good bang for the buck (from what I have heard).

the shures are not for bass heads. My next cans are hopefuly gonna be some SRH440, but i like a neutral/bright sound sig.

what about the HD 280 pros? Those superluxs are semi open, i need it to be closed.

Last time I listened to a pair of HD-280's they were definitely not bass monsters. In fact the bass lacks impact. The bass is there but won't have you're normal mid bass thump to it like a pair of grado's. The headphones are no slouch just not bassy. Also they did a great job of isolating albeit a little uncomfortable due to the clamp. Mind you it's been quite a while since I've listened to the hd-280.

hmm so i guess im either going with the k518 or the audio technica m50s if i can get a good deal on them. Anyone know where i could find them cheap? Not necessarily under $100.

Thanks
