You met up with him?

Saw a dude with what looked like GR07s worn the wrong way - with the cord down

Yeah haha he had Alpha dogs as well along with a few other things.
I only brought my V-MODA XS, was light on gear at the time.

On a loud subway? I doubt it. Walking around, probably listenable. This is coming from the person who used her Q701 on the school bus.

Meh - he was just talking about a bus - but even so, they 800s are a bit more external noise dampening than many open cans. I know i've worn my 880s and Grados on the subway before - sure, not ideal - but certainly usable.

You should probably tell him.
Someone wore a Monoprice 8320 with the cable down and switched sides. I just told him how it should be worn, turns out to be a really cool guy and we talked a bit before I got off the bus.

I understand, that some time ago you were using Q701 out and about. How much loud were you listening the music on the street and how much on the bus? I mead, how usable are they for outside listening?

I actually thought the inconvenient part of using my K702 outside wasn't the leakage, it was their size. While ended up just not using them when I thought using them on a subway was a good idea (it wasn't; I turned up the music too loud to be comfortable), they were usable when background noise isn't excruciating like walking places. It's nice to hear my surroundings when I'm walking to class.

I see someone at school with the Shure SRH1540. He seems to use them daily since its always on his head or around  his neck. He is the only person I've saw that doesn't use Apple Earpods (90%) or other cheap earphones (10%).

This. I'd have to turn it up uncomfortably loud to hear the music. I only brought it outside once. My HD558's on the other hand are much better for outside use, I've probably used them outside of the house 5 times now. The Q's are massive in size and look absolutely dumb on your head. Here's a bad picture of me and a friend.

Yup. That's the one thing stopping me from getting some K550s to use as a portable. They're massive. Now that my Grados are gone, and my only decent closed headphones left are the ZMF x Vibro (way too big and expensive to take outside, and the pair I have right now is a loaner until my pair is made) and AD2000 (10 foot cable and I really don't want these to break because from what I'm reading, the AD2000X isn't as fun), I've been using my RE600 and SE530 outside. I'm starting to realize why I didn't like IEM's for anything other than working out and public transportation--I get a really weird sense of sensory deprivation with that much isolation when I'm walking.
