As I sat in my seat with rockboxed Clip Zip w/FiiO E6 running Sennheiser PX90's (I showed up early to get a good seat), I saw a kid that looked to be maybe 12 years old walking in carrying what looked to be an iphone, with beats around his neck.

I've seen quite a few 595's and 598's. I've seen atleast two or three at school and quite a few on the streets and at various coffee shops. Or maybe I'm just seeing the same guy everywhere I go.
I own a lot of CDs. My HD598 was paid for with savings, as was my whole system. I'm by no means rich - not even middle class - but that doesn't mean I don't have disposable income.
A while back i spotted someone in SR60s in my class so the next week i asked him how he likes his grados and if he's a member of head-fi. Sadly, he was not but his friend was and his friend was the one who recommended him the SR60s. Seemed like a cool guy so i sold him my spare HD414 yellow pads and Beyerdynamic headband to enhance his musical experience.
I think i'll try wearing my SR60s in the gym for fun to see if i garnish some reactions while pumping weights =)
Went on a college visit a few weeks ago at Johns Hopkins, saw an Indian dude wearing what looked like modded T50s with a custom cable. Looked pretty cool, actually.
I've seen at least 10 people of varying ages/race wearing Beats...not on their head, but a around their necks. Not kidding, I've never seen anyone actually listening to them. must be just a fashion thing.

i agree, almost 40% of the school population in my High school; almost everyone wearing a Generic type of Beats headphones.
only saw 2 people wearing Bose Quiet Comforts, 1 wearing a Vmoda Crossfade, 1 Klipsch M50(who is friends with one of mine)
im the only one with Portapros. Me and my Friend both own a Sony XB500.
funny to say im the only one in school who actually wore a pair of Sennheisers.
