Hi HiFiMan,
I recently bought a HE-400.
It is amazing compared to all headphones I have owned, but I am having trouble with the sibilance from this headphone.
The problem shows up with female voice pronouncing sounds like "si" "tz", which makes my ear really uncomfortable.
Is this normal? I am using an Aune T1 DAC/AMP to drive the HE-400, and I am using the velour pads.
I bought mine from Amazon through an authorized dealer (HIDEF Lifestyle), and I am thinking about returning them, as I can't really listen to most of female songs for longer than 20 minutes.
I've heard about bad revisions having sibilance issues.
Could you please let me know if mine is possibly defective, or this is the expected sound? or is my amp not powerful enough for these?
I also have a WA7 Fireflies coming as a Thanksgiving gift, but I need to decide before my WA7 arrives---I need to decide before the return period runs out.
Thank you,
-Yi
Edit1:
Received advice through private messages from forum members.
Looks like the sibilant female vocal is the norm or plagues many HE-400s.
I was also told that HE-500 does not have the problem, so I've decided to return the HE-400s and pick up a pair of HE-500 over thanksgiving. Does Hifiman run any BlackFriday deals for HE-500?
Edit2:
Been using my HE-500s for while.
Very satisfied with the sound so far! Thank you HifiMan.
